I have an X71SL and I was interested in experimenting with some mild overclocking. I am just hoping to get a small performance boost, and I'm def. not looking to destroy my computer.

I looked in the BIOS, but it does not seem to offer anything in the way of overclocking. Can anyone recommend a reasonably safe way to get started overclocking the X71SL notebook?

Does anyone strongly recommend against overclocking this model, or has had any experience positive or negative?

Thanks for anyone who can offer advice here,

    Guy.

    Find the PLL (clock generator).
    Download setfsb.

Overclock as much as you want.

Thanks for your reply moral hazard,

I am trying to find the PLL for my X71SL. I put a post in the forums at the Asus site, so hopefully someone there will know what it is. Is there a way to find out what the PLL is on your own? It was not listed at the setfsb website.

Is it pretty safe to experiment with setfsb? I know the processor should shut down automatically if it overheats, but is there anything specific to watch out for?

    Thanks,

    Guy.

Thanks again for your reply moral hazard,

I have not had any luck finding the PLL for this model by searching online, so I guess I am gonna have to open up the machine and see if I can find it that way.

    Thanks for your help,

    Guy.
