Hey guys, I came upon this website with a link to a portable one MX series notebook(basically I think its an A8Jm). But it claims to have an upgradeable graphics card? Something smells rotten in Denmark. what gives? heres the link

Well, it is the A8Jm... and the A8J series uses some proprietary ASUS MXM technology on their GPU, which is removable.
The new A8Js/A8Jp seems to use the same technology for the newer GPU's (Go7700 and x1700), so I'd assume that's why P1 is saying it's upgradeable, coz theoretically since they use the same proprietary tech, it should be possible.
The only catch is if you can find any of these cards being sold anywhere separately outside of an ASUS machine... -
would upgrading them merely require a bios update after the new card is dropped in then?
-
That is pure speculation, and I really don't know

ask the user ice tea.
In mxm the bios for the gpu is in the gpu. In theory if you found a 7700 gpu for sale you could put it right in your a8jm.
Asus sells the 7600 in their estore seperately so there is a chance they will sell the 7700, or maybe even lets call it the 8600, 8700 the next generation
I dont think its false advertising at all. Not quite what it implies but its true.
Im still waiting on the first person to upgrade the gpu in their a8jm though. -
Yeah i think i still want to wait for the spring release W3J
