Hello folks.
I bought a UL80VT last year, imported it from USA (to Aus).
I bought one of these power cables as our electrical connections are a bit different from yours.
Whenever I charge the laptop the powerpack gets hot....very hot. At first I wondered "is this normal" but the laptop seemed to be charging ok and there are no issues so I have basically ignored the hotness.
Last night though, the power pack was under my pillow and the laptop was charging. After a while I noticed the battery icon showing that the laptop was actually running off battery... and not charging. "that's odd" I thought to myself as the power lead was still connected.
I checked the power pack connections, they were ok.... but at this point I noticed the power pack was HOT. I mean, really hot. The green LED was off so no charge was getting through to the laptop. I unplugged the power pack, let it cool down, then tried again... it still functions (that's a relief at least).
My questions:
1) how hot does your power pack get? warm? hot? molten lava hot?
2) do I have a faulty power pack ? or have I done something else wrong?

come on, someone tell me if their power pack gets really hot when the laptop battery is charging. Its not hard, just a few words will make me happy.

Most a/c adapters have built in circuitry that will cut off power if things heat up. In your case, you really shouldn't have placed the adapter under a pillow.
For the UL series, Asus packed an a/c adapter that provides just barely enough power (65w for a system capable of using at least 60w). If you are using your UL80 at full power and charging the battery at the same time, the adapter will get very hot.
If this bothers you, just purchase an adapter with higher power ratings. -
