I am sure they use either Hitachi, Toshiba or Seagate. You will have to PM paladin44 from powernotebooks for further info.

HDD's last a long time, but various things can affect the wear level, etc. I'd say a couple of years, say 3 - 4 or more for a mobile drive. Hard to really give a definitive answer to that question.

Or wd or even samsung. You are going to tak a random stab at it then you should know the history. Never toshiba (for very good reasons) ever. How does that answer the posters question though? That really does not in the slightest bit does it? How long do they last? If it was a toshi which it will never be then you should have low expectations. The brighjt side is that toshi sta 2.5" drives are not in the channel. The drives will be hitachi or seagate and rma rate in the first year is below 1% and remains low throughout the years. You should expect the hdd to outlast your notebook is the correct answer.

Justin, I am perfectly capable of answering for myself. In addition, your advice to PM me is not proper conduct. There is no reason to take his question private, that is the reason we have a public forum, so that others can gain from questions asked.

Which brand of HDD we use will depend on which one you order.

The 7,200 RPM drives will be either Hitachi or Seagate because those are the only two companies that make them at this time.

If you order a 5,400 RPM drive we can use several brands. If you have a preference just let us know when you place your order and we will do what we can to use the one you want, but we do not guarantee it. What you can count on is that we only use the best brands.

Hard drives can last from 2 minutes to 10 years or more. There is no way to tell how long any hard drive will last. This is one of the reasons that we provide a 3 Year Warranty standard on all of our PowerPro models.

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific.
What is the mean time to faliure (MTTF) for these hard drives ?
For desktop HDDs, seagate is highly regarded with a 5 year warranty. How does seagate compae to Hitachi in 7200 sata ? That is, if its known whether one is superior to another.
I'm sorry, the engineer in me just has to optimize everything :D

To answer your question I would go to the hard drive manufacturer's websites and look up the MTTF specs and any other specs you might want to know.

Seagate is regarded highly and does offer a 5 year warranty as opposed to Hitachi's 3 year warranty. However you will get arguments on both sides as to which is the best, and in the end, you will be just splitting hairs because they are both excellent hard drives.

The 5 year warranty means nothing. Since january we have has about a dozen seagate drives rma and none other. Ran into a bad batch i guess. In my experience. Using Fuji over the past 3 years they have by far least rma rate out of all nb drive manufacturers. Toshi by far has the most and worst turn around on rma.
