how do you think how long we will have to preorder g1,when it will be regulary in stock?

I don't think your question makes total sense, but I could try to help by letting you know what I know.
Right now, pretty much everyone should have a dececnt amount of backorders that they've taken, because the G1 is a really good value and a lot of people want them. The problem is incoming stock. I know that we're guarenteed a certain number..... we're expecting more.. and there's a chance we could get many more, but there's a better chance we just get what we're guarenteed..... So what will be coming in isn't known by anyone and anyone who says they know is feeding you a line. Asus is trying to bring in as many as they can, but sometimes that doesn't always work out.
Right now, if we only get what we are guarenteed - there will be a handful of backorders that are already in that will be waiting until the 3rd shipment, during the 2nd week of January. If we get what we're expecting, we should be able to fill all current backorders and those that come in over the next few days at least. If we get much more than we expect, we'll actually have physical stock before the end of the year. That is unlikely, but possible.
So, right now, you'll be luck to get one before the end of the year if you don't have a backorder in with someone..... there is a good chance it'll be early January though..... I think under the most likely scenario, it'll be hard to physically find them "in stock" anywhere until at least the middle of January (about a month from now). -
Well... I really don't want to preorder it ... i rather to order it once its in stock. But if backorders might be waiting til the 3rd shipment... then It's gonna take awhile till I get my g1

The next shipment is already the third shipment, it is after Xmas, the first two shipments were extremely small, for example the 2nd shipment was only 38 units in NA, the first one was smaller than this, every single unit from these two shipments was strictly controlled by Asus, even most of them were sold through distis, but which reseller to give, which not to give was decided by Asus. I meant only important Asus partners got supply.
This situation will last a while, maybe to late Jan. So if you dedcide to wait, be prepared to wait until mid to late Jan., if you decide to pre-order, better pre-order from major resellers, lots of resellers have it listed on their website, but they won't get supply soon. -

To give you some sense of the scarcity, I was #3 on ProPortable's pre order list and I didn't get one on the first shipment. I was #1 for the second shipment though
Sounds like very few people will be playing with a G1 this holiday. Its like the PS3 of laptops. -

Yeah, you know this first, second shipment BS has to stop.... Asus' PM at least used to have the power behind him to tell people it's not smart to yell fire in a crowded theater........ I think the total from the first shipment was 12... 4 of us got 3 a piece..... That's not a shipment, those are demo's in my book..... Heck, the V1 shipment this week, a total of 19 came in, and we got 5 of those, 4 of which can go towards a backorder which is much longer than that. The ETA for the G1 and the V1 were both the END of December... this coming week we'll get that "3rd shipment", but there are people who have backorders in and those who want to order that think it's ridiculous that "no one has them yet"...
It's more of an issue that claiming to have "stock" when you have 3 pieces or something is utter BS, even for a niche market like this..... Asus needs to bring in a shipment of at least 300-500 to really call it a "shipment" and even with that it won't last long.. -

I know this is a G1 thread, but since Justin is talking about the V1JP shipment I must respond.
Judging from what we got from this shipment I must say that 19 pieces total is quite dubious (do you really believe everything ASUS tells you?).
Just to set the record straight, we do have "stock" and are shipping daily.
Justin, I am sorry that you only got 5, but I am glad to hear from your new thread A few V1jp/G1p last minute notices that your long list of backorders was filled.
Oh, and believe it or not you really don't know how many came in or who got them. Your attempts to criticize other ASUS dealers is really quite unattractive. -

I personally gave up allocation of 7 v1j. It was prolly a mistake but i didnt think they were going to be a hot seller (oooopsy). They received at the very least least a few dozen and they did not all sell out right away. they had them for almost a week before the last were bought.
We got allocation of 14 (12 shipped to us early this week 2 more shipping next week) g1's in the second shipment. So the number 34 clearly does not make any sense becuase there is no way we got almost half of that. if i had to estimate it was prolly over 100 under 200. They were sold the moment they shipped to us. Newegg got quite a few so did a variety of other vendors. Asus tried to split it up between the distis. Whoever at asus is givng numbers is either lying or not giving any numbers at all. At first we only got 2 g1's in the second shipment. a few days later more became available so they did not sell out right away either. -
