hope someone here can help me out with my problem...

its about the wireless connection of my A6J (got it 2 days ago). when the wireless connection gets cut, its impossible for me to reconnect without rebooting the notebook. when i try to re-login, the intel pro wireless software always tells me the wireless is off in the taskbar, even if its turned-on based in from the intel wireless screen. also when i re-connect using the profile, it says there is a problem with it. when i ask windows to take over the wireless functions, it gets worse because i cant even enable the wireless connection. when i try to repair, it will say its disabling the connection but it just hangs from then on. very frustrating...

i havent installed anything on the A6J yet, its still got stock programs/applications. something must be shutting off the connection and preventing me from re-logging in again. rebooting solves the problem but its very disruptive.

any suggestions where to solve this problem? thanks for the help in advance.

i have the exact same problem with my v6j.

browsing the forum right now to hopefully find a solution.

at first, i thought it was the wireless connection I am on. however, every hotspot I go to, the same thing happens.

when this happens, The blue light on the bottom left of my laptop that indicates that my wi-fi is turned on, goes off. If I try to turn Wi-Fi on again, the blue light flashes on again, then immediately goes off. I have to reboot the laptop again in order for it to go on.

    very fustrating.

unistall the drivers. Then reinstall. Use the microsoft zero config util not the prowireless utility to find and connect to the wireless network. Try that and tell me if it helps.

Found this on Asus support site.

    "WLAN Driver and Application
Wireless LAN Driver and Utility for WinXP"

Going to try this and see how it works.

yah. that has been what i have doing. Disabled the Intel PROSet/Wireless, and using the standard windows one.

hopefully, this fixes the "Low Signal Strength" problem as well. I can be right next the wireless router, and still receive a low signal.

    it sucks.

The V6 series always had that issue. You need to boost the signal power on your adapter. Go to device manager. Then hardware. right click on your wireless adapter then go to properties. on the list of settings go to power managment unclick use default and raise the power to the highest. Now go to transmit power and boost to highest as well. Also update the firmware on your router.

Raised power for Power Management, but for Transmit Power, when I raise it and click ok, it goes back to default for some reason. Tried rebooting, and changing the settings, but it goes back to default again.

As for firmware on router, i can change my own router at home, but not the hotspots that i connect to outside of home =p

the transmit i think is at high for default anyway so you should be ok. That should help some though raising the power for the other setting. It did when i had a v6va

I'm glad I found this thread because I'm having Intel Proset problems with a W5F, only this is worse. I get random freezes and all of them involve the wireless network alerts that pop-up from the taskbar. I've had my W5F freeze up so many times, I can't begin to tell you.

I did the uninstall/reinstall drivers part and also have done a complete reformat/install of Win XP to rule out a bad factory install. Nothing has worked thusfar, but I'm monitoring the reinstalled Intel Proset software. I wish there was a way to drive the wireless card without it! POS!!!

You can drive wireless without it. Justright click on the sys tray prowireless thing. Choose use microsoft client.

well, after i brought my A6Ja to the Asus service center, they didnt find anything wrong my the network adapter. they were sure its a software problem. they updated the Bios, the entire hd was formatted, then re-installed the OEM XP Home Ed that came with the A6Ja. The Pro Wireless settings were then set to maximum.

guess what? the network connection has been very stable! it still gets cut-off once in a while (the router is in another room, but ill relocate it this wkend), but re-connection is no longer a problem like before! Asus said it could have been one of the software applications w/c likely came in conflict or screwed up the wireless software. It was a good thing Asus accomodated me considering they only entertain hardware-related issues.

I have the same problem as well and have tries everything... I have disabled the intel pro software and used the windows... I have set power management to max... I have reimaged the PC....I have gotten latest software from Asus that's not on the web site and lastly have RMA'd the notebook where they have changed the wireless card. Nothing has worked for any period of time. I've even tried running without P4Gear software. I'm convinced that it's software related and it has something to do with the Asus ATK software (Hcontrol). This software is sending a message to the wireless device that it's off when it's really on and only a reboot solves it, then it does it again eventually. Has anyone found a lasting solution (eg for days not hours)?
    Many thanks,

My dealer, Sasha from C9Tech, recommended I roll back to the older Intel drivers. I'm ready to try that, because there's definitely too much crashing going on for my taste. Really sux, because this W5F is otherwise a very nice machine.

    hello

I have an Asus W2UVb. I use the Wireless Network Connection via an MSI wireless router through Intel PROSet/Wireless and it works perfectly with me.

Signal quality is almost always Exellent and sometimes varies to Very Good and Good.

I just noticed that Asus has posted new wireless driver and a new ATK utility, dated 6/2/06. I'm downloading that now and hope that addresses the problem.

BTW, does everyone agree that the Asus site is the slowest site on earth? One hour to download a driver is unacceptable. I'll communicate that to the Asus marketing folks.

Likair: We're not discussing reception quality, which is indeed excellent. What we're talking about here is the fact that the Intel driver tends to freeze my Asus W5F and others.

Agreed. Once again, I reiterate, its not connection signal or poor signal or router problem or anything.

The problem for my V6J, is that the wireless device turns off by itself. And I cant turn it back on unless I reboot the laptop.

Will try the new drivers that ubercool mentioned.

Fustrating thing is, I can only maintain connection for about 10-15min on average before i need to reboot. sometimes, as short as 5 mins.

Yes, I've experienced that same problem several times too.

After installing the new Intel driver, it appears I can even have the PROset control panel manage my wireless connection, at least for the first hour or so, with no crashing problems...so far.

    Keep your fingers crossed.
