M51Va is a relatively new model manufactured in 2008, if i am correct. But the problem is quite old (see http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=102767): it's not possibile to control brigtness level with Power4Gear in Vista 32 Home Premium. Nothing just happens when you try to make the screen brighter or dimmer with P4G or similar Windows utilities. I upgraded every Asus software I could find, including BIOS, the latest 211th version. But the system is very stubborn. If I get it right the cure for this problem suggested earlier (see the link) was BIOS updating which was eventually programmed by ASUS in view of this bug. I wonder if anyone knows the panacea for this recurrence. By the way the same P4G works wonderfully on M51Kr! It has Radeon 3470 and Turion TL-62 whereas my note is equipped with HD 3650 and processor P8600. Maybe Asus has or is developing ways to fix this bug again??? Many thanks in advance and happy New Year!!!

    hello
try pressing Fn+A and see if that doesn't help. However I am not aware of this model having (or not) an ambient light sensor.

Hello!!! Thank you so much! It's that simple?!! I spent two days talking to a technician girl in Moscow office of Asus and about a week cracking brains myself. Yes, it has an ambient light! By pressing Fn + A I switched it off, and P4G activated!
