    At a distance of about a foot, the microphone is not picking me up at all. It only pics me up if I my mouth is literally an inch away from the openings and even then it is extremely low. Any suggestions?

    Hmm. Have you tried boosting the gain of the microphone? (Mic volume under Volume controls)

    I havn't but just looked at it and boost was at 0. Just raised it up and it seems to be picking me up a lot better.
