Not sure about the F8, but traditionally 14" screens, no matter what brand, suck. I don't know why, but 14" screens usually have really bad viewing angles.

As for ASUS, it's hard to say, best I could mutter would be 'decent', they're not often raved about nor complained about. So pretty much they're good enough to not be complained about :p

Yeah I'm not sure as this is my only laptop, but I recently compared the same photo on mine vs my buddy's older Dell. He was photoshoping his pics (we have the same exact camera) and wasn't happy with the results. The pic displayed on this Asus was 1000X better than on his Dell. Of course I have a higher resolution screen and all, but the regular 15" screen on his Dell was washed out. Like I said, it's older also, maybe a 2002.

Oh yes, there's quite a bit of leakage I believe it's called. On a black screen in a dark room the black is uneven around the edges.

In my limited experince with Asus laptops the screen quality is fairly average. From a dead pixel standpoint Asus has a great warranty in place but my G1s screen ranks fairly low against other screens I've used (light leakage/unevenness, grainy). My older G1p had an amazing screen though after it was replaced under warranty, no graininess or light leakage, I guess I lucked out with that one, too bad I upgraded! I've also heard the a8 series had horrible screens leaving many users much to desire.

My W3V has an amazingly brilliant screen as laptops go. The glossiness definitely helps. Pity Asus doesn't continue this model. I'm desperately looking to upgrade.

The next model designation is the W2W. If I needed a desktop replacement, this would be one of my top choices.

Edit: Sorry, I just realized that you wrote W3V. I thought you had a W2V.

I'd say the panels that Asus laptops use are fairly decent... to be honest, they're not as good as Sony, Fujitsu, or even HP screens... but they're close in terms of quality. On a scale of 1-10... I'd say they rate about 6-8, depending on which Asus model you get.

i love my screen, it looks so great, no dead pixels at all (that i can see anyway) i have no regrets in buying asus at all. (have had my laptop for two months only though, but its been a great two months :p)
