Howyas. I'm about to enter university and i was just woundering about a few questions about the g1 before ideciding to get it. I willl be using it mainly for uni work as well as gaming, movies and the web
1. How good is the g1 itself?
2. Would the g1 be able to last 4-5years without it breaking?
3. In 4-5years, how do you think the g1 will rank with other notebooks?
4. What alternatives do you recommend?
Thanks in advance
Ronnie

as in the g1s? because the g1/g1p is a bit obsolete now.
-
well eg1s or the g1. im doin law so i dont need one too good just one to last abit
-
ok then.
G1 first
1 - are we talking about its structure, its performance its durability?
structurally. not too bad, except for the keyboard, its a tad dodgy. performance wise, good as well. although it doesn't compete with a high end desktop, it will play all current games on medium high.
2 - again, are we talking about its gaming potential in 4 -5 years or if it will last 4 - 5 years in durability terms.
If you treat it well and don't knock it around it will last a fair while. perfomance wise, probably not, the gpu is already old hat so 4 - 5 years is already out of the equation.
3 - not very well. 4 -5 years is eternity in technology.
4 try what notebook would you buy section for that one.
G1s
1 - again. are we talking about its structure, its performance its durability?
i believe the keyboard has been improved but still a bit dodgy, other than that its good. gaming wise the 8600 tears up just about anything at the moment.
2 pretty much same as above, except that with the 8600, you should be able to last the distance.
3 the G1s will rank better than the g1, but still 4 - 5 years is a long time.
4 - again, as above.
