I purchased my laptop at xoticpc. I upgraded the cpu and had diamond thermal compound applied to cpu and gpu.

    2 questions

#1. Any of you that upgraded the cpu, is the "warranty void if removed" sticker still there?

#2 How can I tell that the IC7 diamond thermal compound was applied to the cpu/gpu? I ran furmark and my gpu peaked 99C.

    1. Yes it will still be there. the resellers have stickers to replace ones that were removed.
    2. you can't tell without removing the heatsinks- in which case you'd have to apply your own thermal paste.

Keep in mind it will take a day or two for the paste to "burn in".

I wouldn't judge results until you've had at least a day or two of solid 3d gaming.

Oh really? I don't really do gaming. I thought it would set just passively. It came in last Friday, 11/06. I haven't used it much. I've only ran furmark several time, about 5-10 minutes at a time.

So far, I've peaked 102C on furmark.

Update: Turns out my "Warranty void if removed" sticker isn't there. I'm chatting with xotic as I write this.

More update: Just finished chatting with xotic. Turns out sometimes, the sticker is salvageable. Sometimes it's not. However, the upgraded component(s) have a 1 year warranty by the reseller, and no longer part of Asus's 2 year warranty. Good thing I used my Amex card. It extends my warranty by 1 year. It's kinda wierd because my warranty is something like this: total 3 years for the computer, but only 2 years for the cpu.

So which is it? Is the 2 year warranty still valid or not? Who is confused here besides me?

Apparently you both spoke to XoticPC, but got conflicting reports. I currently have an order with them and I added teh paste, but I don't want to lose the warranty. I may call them myself.

There's a little misunderstanding here. I had the CPU upgraded and I also chose the thermal compound upgrade.

The thermal compound upgrade should not affect the 2 year Asus warranty. However, component upgrades will be have a 1 year warranty through the reseller (xoticpc).
