I want to convert my FAT32 to NTFS but how do I realign the clusters or is it automtically done by convert to 4k?
-
best use a program like partition magic to do that - easy and relatively safe.
only if you format before installing windows, it will automatically select the 4k cluster size.
all other conversions from fat32 to ntfs will have a 512b cluster size and this is very very very bad for large files -
but its $70....anything free that can do the job?

Follow these steps:
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.php
and everything will be just fine, 4K clusters. Free, fast, and painless, you just need a R(W) CD. -
Ive heard that by using partition magic for conversion, you actually lose (waste) disk space. Can anyone comment?

i also want to convert my NTSF C drive from 512b to 4kb cluster allocation unit size. just wanted to know that if I make a backup copy of my C drive will my W3J work as before after the reformat and reinstallation of my files and programs. thanks.
