Hey Guys & Gals,
I just wanted to let you know that Asus refreshed a couple of their rebates and extended them to some other notebooks.
Basically, I'm only going to comment on the Core Duo Ensembles because we're out of all of the older models and most people are looking for the newer ones Anyway, but there are basically rebates on ALL of the older models - if you can find someone who still has them in stock.
$100 mail-in rebate: W5f / V6j - due to the cpu price drop of last month
$200 mail-in rebate: A7j/W2j - New W2j rebate is due to the incredibly unfavorable lower resolution screen they ended up importing..

wow the $200 rebate is pretty awesome. I hope Asus updates their USA site soon, I'm pretty curious on the rebates on the EOL models
-
where is the rebate forms?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
it'll be around, I haven't officially gotten yet - just the list of what the rebates are..... Asus will probably update their site at the same time they release the form to us.
-
will it be eligible for computers bought now?

Does the rebate only cover Ensemble models sold within NA, or is it international? A $100-150 AUD discount on the V6J would make my buying decision a little easier.
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Well this is a North American rebate, but something may be available for you. You'll have to call up your local Asus office to find out.
Here is a copy of the NA rebate form... I've also listed it in my news thread and had them updated on the product pages of the site as well.

great thanks for the pdf file! I'm guessing the $200 off the V6V also applies to the V6va too like it did last year (even though it's not listed on the form).
Do you know if they will do another instant price drop as well? -
PROPortable Company Representative
Well, I honestly don't think there's a soul who has a V6va left.... We've been sold out for what... 2-3 months easy..... and when we sold out, Asus was completely 100% out of them... and there were only 300 that ever came to NA and I know that we easily sold 100 of those...... anyone who's stuck with them honestly doesn't want to be known because I know places that were putting $100 - $200 premiums on the price of the remaining units they had after we sold out....... But to answer your question, it does refer to the V6va as far as I know, but good luck finding one.
The mail-in rebates are mainly for us dealers who try to stock a lot of units..... Asus doesn't feel it's important to say... give us a rebate for remaining units in stock --- but those who stock the most are "the" favored dealers.... but we get screwed.. So, I know I was one who told them they can't just drop the price without fair enough warning because we can't lose money because they decided to drop the price a week after we had a large shipment arrive...... This price drop was because of the cpu drops last month....... the W2's rebate is because they want to get rid of them so they can bring in the WSXGA+ model, and honestly given the price now, I think the W2's should fly. Other than that I can't really get into anything further down the road because these rebates come at us know the day they're started..... -
i live in canada. so if i get the notebook here, do i also get the rebate? Or is it just for ppl in the states?

Awesome news for any new buyers.
-
Is the V6j being updated or refreshed in any way? If so, when will it be out and what updates?
-
Writing on the wall for a W2j refresh with a higher res screen?
I bet the "new" PM got some heat for the W2jb decision. -
PROPortable Company Representative
The cpu prices dropped and therefore they are getting refunds on what they had left in W5's and V6's and are passing along the cost difference..... Right now, Asus says there isn't even a plan to bring in new models, but the writing is on the wall........ they should bring in 1.83ghz models at the regular price after these sell out........ whether that's 2 weeks or a month...... we don't really know, but the rebates are running for the month, so they probably anticipate having them for a while, but they're not ordering NEW one in with this configuration... obviously.
The PM isn't getting heat - it was Taiwan's F-up and we all know it..... they're not selling for them.... the funniest thing of all is that after we cancelled out big intial order and then boycotted them for a couple weeks after that....... we finally stopped fighting and said we'd offer them as long as the price was right and people KNEW it was WXGA....... this extra rebate certainly makes it a sweet price.... so they shouldn't last that long. -
The fine print says 'valid only in the United States". :-(
-
If I try to wait out the current W2j will the SXGA screens also be crystal shine variety (extra bright) or is that only offered in the XGA like HP?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
They should be WSXGA+ and they would be the color shine screens.
-
Nothing for W3J?
-
Ok if the WSXGA+ version wont come with a Crystal Shine screen then im probably going to pull the trigger on the current W2j with the rebate. But before I do I have one other concern....The only review I've seen on the w2j is here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=55009&highlight=w2j
Everything looks great but I'm specifically concerned about "I'll be the first to admit that this thing runs HOT! 40C idle, and got it up to as high as 68C just setting up a bunch of stuff."
Does it really idle at 104F degrees? If it goes up to 154.4F degrees setting it up how hot does it get during heavy gaming? Is the palm rest hot to the touch? What about the bottom of the machine can I put it on my lap without burning myself? (I understand that all laptops are hot on the bottom but while my current Inspiron 8200 is hot I can stand having it on my lap for a few minutes without hurting myself) -
proportable/ or anyone else.. do you have the rebate form for us canadian users? The form linked is for the states only.
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Sorry, that's our rebate form...... I'm sure there's one for Canada as well, you can call Asus and ask.
-
I've emailed Asus about this. It seems they havne't yet updated their website yet, both the US and Canada's.
-
The rebates are some seriously good news. I've been considering getting the w2jb for quite some time now, and with 200 knocked off the price I think I'm coming close to purchasing it.
Question tho, what will the w2jc's price (the wsxga model) be when it finally arrives? If its not outlandishly different I may just get that instead. -
According to C9 I got their last V6Va today.

when will asus ever update their website? they don't reply emails either.
-
I'd love the W2jb - especially with the dual lamp screen...must be super bright.

Interesting, the rebate says it's valid only in the USA, but on the form they put "state/province". So I wonder if this one will work for Canada, or if they'll put another one out? I'd love to get $200 off my V6VA that I just got.

I need to make a correction....... Asus updated the rebate so that it goes from 6/5 - 7/7 and there is a $200 rebate on the A7j/W2j/W5f/V6j --- the W5f and V6j HAD $100 rebates on them, but Asus said that was a mistake and they were both $200........just wanted to clear that up.

Is there any specific reason the W3J was left of that list. I'm guessing because It's very popular and It's release got pushed back so far...but If the rebates are because of the processor price drops, then why not include the W3J?? Just curious.
I can't wait to see If Canada releases these rebates. -

Alright cool...I've been busy lately, so I haven't had time to go through all the latest info...so I don't know If you mentioned the W3J updates already elsewhere, but I'm really glad to hear that. So will the price on those systems remain the same when they arrive...and the current W3J's, if there are any left, might be reduced...is that how it's going to work?
I'm quite happy to hear that either way, because I've been waiting on the W7J to make it over here before I made my final decision...so in the end the wait is going to be worth it no matter what.
Do you have any update on the S6 series for North America??? Thanks -
PROPortable Company Representative
That's correct..... same price... and there won't be any left of the originals......
S6 will be coming, but we've always been looking at July.. not sure if that will change though. -
Proportable, can you ask asus when they will release the rebate forms in their website (for both the states and canada)? They don't seem to reply emails. Thanks
-
PROPortable Company Representative
We have the rebates on our site... they do need to update them to reflect what I posted today, but they'll probably have those on Monday.
-
I am just waiting for the canadian rebate to come out. I've been checking the website each day, but they havne't made any progress yet.
-
Found this Canadian rebate:

thanks that's great news. i wonder when asus.com will put up the rebate
-
CalibratedComa Notebook Evangelist
Yeah, nice find Cross!!! I've been waiting on the Official site to put it up. I think It's ridiculous that the Official site doesn't have it listed yet, but a retailer does!
-
Thanks a lot for the Canadian link.
"This rebate cannot be combined with any other ASUS offer, and is valid only in the Canada."
THE CANADA!!!!11!1!1 -
ROFL!! Hahaha
-
asus updated their sites with the rebate for this month, BUT the canadian site still links to the US rebate form. How dumb is that? haha. Someone who could let them know should let them know since they don't reply emails.

Engrish cracks me up...
