In most cases that isn't good enough. Usually when someone asks me to repair their PC and it has limewire on it, it needs to be re-formatted because no matter what you do, the system still has little "quirks" and "hiccups" here and there. My advice is to do a back-up, reformat, then never put that crap on the computer again.

What I normally suggest to people who want limewire but value their computer is to put limewire on an old computer they have lieing around that no one uses or they don't care if it gets messed up; it might even be messed up already. Confine all of the evil programs like limewire to one computer, then you can transfer all of your safe data(be careful doing this- make sure to only transfer safe files) to the other computers in your house.

As an example, say you have a Win98 computer in the basement that no one uses anymore. Put limewire on it, and download all your favorite music. Then, burn the music to a cd or something, and transfer it to your other computers. You get the data without the crapware, viruses, and spyware, as long as you do your file transfers carefully.

    Discalimer:
I in no way support programs such as limewire. I do not, have not, and do not intend to ever use them. Use them at your risk.

I cant tell you how many times people are like my pc is running strange. and 90 percent of the time they installed some crap p2p software. you really can never get the pc running back to original after that. IRC and news groups get your music there people.

    I feel the same way.

I was sitting in the hallway at school a few weeks ago and someone came up to me and asked me why my computer was so fast. Now I'm sitting there utterly confused, because I'm programming. Just crunching out code. Now I knew I had some DECENT hardware in there, but it was still an old laptop(athlon 3200 + m9700) but you wouldn't know the difference between that and a bottom of the line budget notebook by what I was doing. So I ask the guy what he means. Then he says "look at how fast it is going. Everything happens as soon as you type on the keyboard or click on something with the touchpad." Then I minimize my IDE and go to open some more files, and they guy starts going crazy. He couldn't believe that I could browse through folders on a hard disk and open stuff in a timely manner.

Apparently he is one of the many people who have no idea how to use a computer, let alone how to take care of one. Poor guy's system is so screwed up he can't even open up folders. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him my laptop wasn't really that fast at all, and that there are other computers(including my main desktop I built a few months back) that are 3-4 times as powerful.

My point of the story is to show how ignorant people are these days of technology. I suppose that it really helps out companies because most of these people will just buy a new computer once their other one is screwed up to a point beyond use, because they thing the computer is "outdated" when in truth it would run fine if well taken care of. It also helps out people like me who do computer repairs; if people avoided this stuff in the first place I would lose 9 out of every 10 jobs I'd normally get. But it really is annoying. It's a real pain to try to backup people's files from such a damaged system so you can restore it back to it's original state.

So who wants to download limewire?

What limewire do you guys use? Limewire isnt as bad as Kazaa(OMG....horrible), and the open source version is alot better than the one you download. Sometimes these things happen due to downloading a song that looks good, but is actually a virus, so sometimes scanning is needed after using limewire.

Do you realize how many people say that? And do you realize how many of them end up paying me lots of $$$ to get rid of it? It's your computer, do whatever you want. Nothing's free, you know.

    Yeah, sorry about that. =)

But this is already taken care of. User just needs to backup his files, format, and do a clean install of windows, keeping limewire and other crap away from his computer. Problem solved. =)

And I get the same problems with people who dont pay me money. :) . As you said, if you take care of the computer, the computer will be happy and still be clean as before. For many of the users with limewire, they dont pick the right files and end up with horrid spyware attacks and dont even know how to even do a scan.
