    resellers: is the P-M 760 2.0ghz in short supply?

    Hi All,

    Can any of the resellers comment on whether the P-M Centrino is in short supply (and thus difficult to obtain) now that the price drops have been announced?

    Oh seriously? So there's no short supply?

    So basically, if a reseller says that they are unable to obtain 2.0 ghz P-M's, and that only 1.86 and 1.7 are readily available, they might be trying to unload old stock?

    .... no, only unless they're still selling those at the old prices. Most distributors went low on the 2.0's a few weeks ago. None of them wanted to reorder for delivery before today or they would be paying the old prices. So, today, most places got them in and started shipping....... however most disty's probably still show backorders. I know that the day of the price drop we order our supply for the next month and half..... so all of our notebooks that were ordered after the end of the day on Friday won't even start getting built till tomorrow because in the morning those new cpu's (who's prices have dropped) will be coming in.

    I don't think anyone is trying to pull anything over on you.... the 2.0's weren't the easiest thing to get and the more you buy the better you get taken care of... so I don't know but a lot of the smaller places don't always get to get in orders on the day of the price drops.

    The 2.0GHz has been in very short supply for several weeks, and it was not because of the price drop. Intel Distributors are price protected so their inventory status at the time of a price drop is irrelevant. Brokers and other integrators have to watch their inventory more carefully because they are not price protected.

    The fact is Intel got caught with too much inventory on their books at the close of their last quarter, so they "over-adjusted" this quarter and a shortage resulted.

    Intel Distributors are actually still in short supply for about another week, so don't be disappointed with your vendor if your 2.0GHz or 2.13GHz orders experience a slight delay.
