just a simple question: is it possible to install a 1 gb and a 2gb stick of ram and use the 3 gig?

my s96J still has an "old" dual core processor and also the "old" win XP.

You can, but it wont be in dual channel since there different sizes. Also you probably have 32-bit XP so it will most likely not show all the memory available, but technically you have that memory.

what do you mean with that? Wil i be able to use the full 3 gb memory?
i dont mind about the dual channel.

Its mostly for working in photoshop and other photo programs (like making a 11 pics panorama with 10 megapix/picture).

Well, 32-bit XP "old" can only show up to 2GB of memory in the system, although I think it can take up 3GB(and not show the last 1GB).

I believe you can still do 3GB, but since your like me(32-bit processor and 32-bit xp) it isnt really worth that much.

that's incorrect. i believe the upper limit for 32-bit is 3.2 gb (or something else between 3-4 gb. however, some of the early core duo notebooks can only use up to 2 gbs due to bios limitation. i have no idea if that is the case for the early s96j...but i wouldn't be surprised if a bios update fixes that.

OP:I would wait for a confirmed instance where it worked on the s96J . Otherwise you might waste the money. But you're free to try and post back with results, of course :)

Have you checked the owner's lounge?

BTW: forget the dual channel business. Zero performance improvement.
