    ok i recieved my s96j this morning (from rjtech.com) and am about to install XP pro. here is my situation:

    i have another laptop connected to the internet through a USB modem (ADSL). I also have a wireless router laying around. I plan to run a network cable from the connected laptop to the router, and then connect to the wireless network with my s96j. i imagine that this is possible, but i dont know exactly what i'll need to do during the setup process (of the router) for this to work. am i overcomplicating the issue? or is there something i'm missing that would make this an impossibility?

    also...anything i should know about the windows installation process before i start? some specific order? some known issue that might make the process smoother for me? (aside from making sure to use an sp2 version of xp) ??

    thanks =)

    Im not sure I follow, so here is to clarify you want:

    internet--->router--->wirelss to your laptop
    ........................ --->wired to other laptop (ignore the full stops)

    Thats what I do at home with my desktop (wired) and laptop (wireless) so I dont see any problems. Just set up the router as the instruction tell you and you should be fine.

    As for XP, there a nifty thing called Autopatcher I just learned about from the forum here. It has all the updates you need in one file which save you connecting and downloading like 54 as I had to do.

    Apart from that, you should be set.

    the issue is that the ADSL modem is USB rather than normal network cable, so i cannot do [usb-modem] --> [router] to establish a wireless network, as the router has no USB slot. what i want to do is [usb-modem] --> [laptop] --> [router] and thus establish a wireless signal to which i can connect with my s96j. if this is what you understood, then i'm glad it should work w/ out problems =). ty

    If you need to use wireless network with your laptop, you don't need to use a USB port to connect to laptop from router.
    Because of a ADSL modem, you need to connect with a network cable from ADSL modem to a wireless router's RJ45 connector. I believe that your IPS provide a user name and password, not only this, you also have to setup the router setting and read the manual instruction if you don't have to set the user name and password in ADSL. Probably, you need to contact your IPS how to set it up if neccessary. Hope can help a bit....

    Cheers

    Specilically, you're going to have to enable ICS (internet connection sharing) on the laptop where the USB modem is connected to, run a network cable from the laptop's network card into a LAN port (not the WAN port) on the wireless router. Disable DHCP on the wireless router and set a static IP on the S96J on the same subnet as the wireless router (I think ICS will assign the router an IP of 192.168.0.1). Don't know if it's worth it and might consider replacing the USB modem with an Ethernet version, otherwise the laptop needs to be always on for your S96J to get Internet access.

    Can't you just bridge the wireless network with the ADSL connection?
