I haven't seen it myself. I have it set to do nothing if I close the lid. If I close the lid, then open it again and move the mouse the screen turns on. But if It goes off again I can't do anything to get the screen back on short of a hard shutdown. Except, I found if I close the lid and open it again the screen turns back on fine. It's something about it thinking the lid is still closed for some reason...

Not sure if this helps at all, I've had this problem with the original BIOS and the beta one, I hadn't updated to the Merom one tho.

ok this happens to me to. When i close the lid and it's black adn open it and it is locked, try putting it into standby with fn+f1. And then get it out of standby by holding function. I can't explain how this works but for me it does.

(this is with the regular bios)

The problem with the screen not coming on back is not a bios problem it is a driver problem. Its listed in ati's list of known issues. The problem is for some reason after the screen turns off your graphics card thinks theres another monitor plugged in and doesnt know which one to turn on. You can fix this problem by going into device manager... under display disable all of the displays except for the one controling your lcd screen. I dont know how to explain how to find out which ones you should disable but this fixs the problem 100%. I used to have that problem but now after disableing the other devices under display(except the one controling the lcd) i dont have that problem anymore. This is useing the 1101 beta bios.

Careful, delete and disable are two different things. If you delete, most likely the next time you reboot they will be detected and reinstall automatically.

i can say though that 99.9% you do not disable Plug n Play Monitor. The Generic TV you can since thats S-Video Out, the Default Monitors should be fine because they are VGA out, and possibly the other to do with Extended Desktop capability.

An alternative "fix" (more like a work-around) is to change your power settings when you close the lid. This can be done in your Control Panel under "Power Options." There, you can choose whether you want it to go to standby when you close the lid or not. Cataphract's suggestion sounds like the better option but this is Plan B if it doesn't work.
