    DOes the s96j or the a8jm have something similar to dell's media direct, where you do not have to turn on the computer to play dvds or cds etc?

    nope, neither of those two. I think there may be a model, but it's out of this price range.

    Well, the A8Jm is supposed to have this feature, called Instant ON or Instant Fun... and in A8F it works. But on models with dedicated graphics somehow it doesn't work, and ASUS has since re-written the documentation to say feature not available and the button just launches Windows.... I think they're just covering up because they can't figure out why it works on integrated graphics model notebooks.
