when i put my s96j on standby for over a few minutes and come to wake it up, the fans and harddisk spin up, but the screen wont come on (usually). ive been led to believe this might be related to power4gear, which has me wondering.
i installed NHC and have that doing much of the stuff it seems power4gear does, is there a reason to have power4gear running.
finally other than undervolting with nhc is there anything else i can do to increase battery life, my meter says 2:10-2:25 immediately after unplugging, set on battery saving power4gear, undervolted with powerplay on and on max battery
-
Nothing burns battery more than the screen. With the brightness barely readable this thing has hit 4 hours.
-
with brightness 2 bars from the end, undervolting, and battery saving mode, my meter is showing 2:51. this bothers me as it seems rather bad for this notebook

line98 i got my s96j yesterday and have also had the same standby->black screen thing you have. Uninstalling power4gear and using NHC fixed this? And also, does your wireless light turn on and off when you use fn+f2 because my light stays off and my wireless works regardless of the fn+f2. ALso, the fn+f and f5 for brightness works but the ones for volume don't.... ?

My wireless light doesn't come on either. It might have to do with the wireless console. I know the hardware is not defective, it worked in Ubuntu.
I did not install power4gear, i have NHC and have no problems with standby.
noodles are you getting any audio? Can you hear windows when it boots and shuts down? -
I think the best thing for battery life is undervolting, screen size, and your wireless card being turned off saves lots of life.
sephiroth: My wireless also works fine, it's just the light thing that bothers me. And yes when i start up windows, i hear sounds, everything is fine. But after it goes to standby it is pretty much just dead, i don't hear anything or and the screen is turned off. However, i can press the caps/num/scroll lock keys and the the corresponding light next to the power button will turn on and off.
The wireless thingy doesn't bother me but the stand by is a major issue.
I uninstalled power4gear and still the same problems. Line98 did you fix your issue yet? -
no i uninstalled power4gear which seems to have gained my some battery life by having nhc control it all, but it still wont come out of stand by if i leave it for a few hours.
it comes out of hybernate just fine, and sleeping(or wahtever its called when teh screen auto blacks out), just not standby -
ok so i work at a cub scout camp, and one of the adult leaders here works for hitachi is saying something about the ini order on when the graphics driver gets priority might be off, he says he can fix it if he gets the right ini order on when devices are supposed to start up, does anyone know where i could find this
-
I have power4gear and NHC installed. Should i just get rid of power4gear?
-
I think you should use only one of them. power4gear i think is simpler to use and NHC has more tweaking customizations.
line98 i don't know how to change the graphic driver priority but why are we the only s96j owners that has this problem?! .. i think if i get frustrated enough i'm gonna reformat and reinstall windows and do all the drivers and stuff again and maybe it will be fixed. -
i took power4gear off and have been using only nhc, and i think we may be the only ones, i suppose a reformat would work, but i have like half my hardrive full already of useful programs so i dont think i wanto reformat

It is best to only use one program that manages the system.
People like P4G because everything is done, and you can use the P4G button to change profiles.
NHC and RMClock are also good for people like to tweak or want to do things themselves. -
Well, I just got my S96J and have the same standby problem. I have not installed either P4G or NHC. The only "non-standard" driver I have installed is the Omega video drivers instead of the official package on the Intel site. I might try putting those on instead...
-
did you install all your drivers before you did windows update?
what firewall and antivirus are you running? I had kerio 2.1.5 and it kept my system from fully going into standby.
You could try uninstalling all the major unnecessary programs and trying your standby. -
