I contacted Asus after I assembled my barebone s96sp with a t9300 cpu and there is no response on the screen. It sounds like it is running but the screen remains blank. Asus told me that the bios is not written to support the penryn platform on the s96 series. I told him of other web sites claiming to sell these units with the penryn cpu. He stands firm on it not being compatible with the 45nm platform. If this is true will installing the t9300 cause the mobo to go bad? Which would mean that I have to not only buy a new processor but also have to send it to Asus for repairs. Anyone have experience with this? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

make sure your keyboard is fully connected? I've taken apart my z63a a few times, and sometimes it won't boot because of loose keyboard connector

Intel put out a warning that s96s will never support penryn. it is the sole reason why we discontinued the model instead of offering penryn for it

Thanks for the info. Geared. This is the first I heard about the intel warning. I wish I had known that a few weeks ago. So do ya think the mobo is fried or the proper cpu will fix it? I'd hate to send it in unnecessarily. What is the best platform for the penryn or what is your opinion seems everyone has one. lol :)

I never tried penryn because intel made it official. I doubt the board is fried, unless you got a used unit. they dont really come fried. We had one fried unit out of maybee 100. there was never a cluster of bad s96s out. Atleast not that i know of and we sold them right up until march.

Sounds promising..... I ordered a new t7700 from newegg I'll find out soon enough. Asus also said that an error would come up if it was turned on w/o the internal parts. I tried this to see and still nothing happened. I hope it was just cause of the cpu. I'll try the new one and see what happens. The unit I got is new btw. Asus did say that if the mobo was fried they will replace it. I thought that was really cool. So far it sounds like asus is a reputible company.
