    Hi
    I have a asus n53sv notebook
    cpu i7 2630QM
    intel chipset HM65

I want to know is my laptop compatible with ssd hard sata3 6Gb/s(transfer speed~500MB)
for example ocz ssd vertex3 is my favorite.

I asked this quastion from asus supporter, he said the notebook can only support SATA 3.0 Gb/s!!

But I have two reason for doubting on his opinion:

FIRST, according to the results of HWinfo program (system summery
    program):
    Computer Brand Name:
    ASUS N53SV
    Motherboard Model:
    ASUS N53SV
    Motherboard Chipset:
    Intel HM65 (Cougar Point) [B3]
    USB Version Supported:
    v2.0

    PCH Features
    USB Port Count: 12 ports
    RAID Capability: Not Supported
SATA Ports 2 and 3: Supported
    SATA Port 1 6 Gb/s: Supported *****
    SATA Port 0 6 Gb/s: Supported *****

PCI Express Ports 7 and 8: Supported
    PCH Integrated Graphics Support: Supported
Data Center Manageability Interface (DCMI): Supported
    Node Manager: Supported

    BIOS Manufacturer: American Megatrends
    BIOS Date: 02/10/2011
    BIOS Version: N53SV.209

SECOND REASON is in this page about hm65 chipset(intel site):
    Intel® HM65 Express Chipset
said that: " 2 ports supporting 6 Gb/s transfer rates"

could you please explain for me if use ssd sata 6Gb/s as my internal
storage, what will be the transfer speed of my sata port?

    thanks

Your hard drive bay should be just fine with SATA III, the optical bay SATA port is limited to SATA II. You should get max speeds the SSD can run at.

Since it's a Cougar Point controller, ports 0 and 1 are 6Gbps or SATA III capable. As Hutsady said, the ODD will be on a higher port and limited to 3Gbps or SATA II.

I have exactly same question for ASUS N53SM - S1052V.
Some laptop retailers do not know about it or some others says 6 Gb/s is not supported at the moment by any laptops.
Therefore i am doubting on this and i need shortly a new laptop with SATA III support! :/

BTW; This does absolutely not mean i do not believe you... ;) i want to be pretty sure :)

    some specs of ASUS N53SM - S1052V
    Intel Core i7 2670QM
    Intel Mobile HM65
    Processorsocket: PGA988
    HDD 750GB
    8GB DDR3 (Max 16GB)
    1920x1080 (Full HD 1080p) / Led:Edge-Lit

    My other question is:
Is it enough having an Intel HM65 chipset to say that notebook will support 6Gb/s tranferrate
    or
are there any other dependencies ?

    @ moh_rez_fat

Did you try ocz ssd vertex3 with your laptop ? and wat is the result ?

    Thanks !!!

My Asus U23E also has the HM65 Chipset with Cougar Point SATA controller but currently SATAIII SSDs do not work.

If I were you, I would find out from another owner with a SATAIII SSD if it works. Sometimes some computers just can't read/write to SATAIII.

    Hi David,
"Do not work" is really strong.

Even if you try it using SATA II port ?

I had till yesterday dual core Asus laptop (2,2 Ghz) with SATA II but I selled it to buy a new laptop with SATA III support :/

Does it mean that I can have a new laptop which can not run SSD`s? Then i want my old laptop back ... :/

The U24E should be considered an exception, there is nobody here saying the N53SV can't support SATA III/6Gbps.
