and man i thought it was only dell that had crap for screens.. this one used THE SAME SEC3350 SCREEN that dell is having all the issues with and man it looked horrible prob the worst screen out of any of the ones on display.. totally grainy washed out and looked like it had dirt/grease smeared across it EXACTLY THE SAME as my dell i sent back so i guess i cant single out dell anymore.. i actually really like the shap and size of it but i would not bother to only have another screen issue..
-
Really????? hmmm my friend's G1S looks great....
-
man this one was horrible.. i would have returned that system within a minute of turning it on
-
That surprises me - the floor model Asus G1's I've seen have all had stunningly beautiful screens. Although what I've seen where G1's, not the newer G1S's.
-
Yeah, I had to send mine in for not one, but two replacements of the screen after several dead pixels, and grainy screens... And its still not "perfect" as the original one was. but, its definitely a lot better, and I don't mind it anymore
-
I like my display, but also judging it vs the HP TX1220US which has a horrendus display.
-
The model you saw was a display model after all... it could have been abused by other customers/salespersons.
-
^^^^ no the guy there is a good freind of mine he said that one was put out maybe 2 weeks ago and the point is the sec3350 causing all the dell wsxga problems is also on the g1s's..trust me that is a nasty screen

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
I thought the g1 has the same screen as the c90, the N154Z1-L02.
-
So it had a nasty screen. It would be hard for you to characterize all G1S' as that is the only one you have seen thus far.
If you have the chance to observe several more, then maybe you can make the assumption it is an issue across the line. -
i love my g1s screen its stunning
-
My G1s has a beautiful screen...no complaints from me.

Was the brightness all the way up? Does the store model have the latest BIOS?
Unless Asus but a totally different cheap ass screen on the new G1S's, then it should have one of the best screens on the market today.
Also, don't trust any "tech" guy from Best Buy, no matter how well you know them. They are given false information all the way up and down the ladder, basically, you can find a parts list for the G1S that directly contradicts whatever BS your friend heard about it having an NEC screen, especially since Quanta uses NEC screens on their laptop models, and Asus many times uses CMO. (And one other brand which is sort of cruddy, but not as bad as NEC) -
I would say the OP is probably right about what he saw. I returned a 1520 and ordered the G1S and the new G1S has exactly the same grainy screen as the 1520 (same manufacturer and similar model number). I gave up on getting a decent screen.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
I think you ave the grainy screen issue. Doesnt a new bios or something solve that problem?
-
No... I had to send it in to them.. The ironic thing is after the first time, they sent me back a screen that was even more grainy... and already had stuck pixels... meh -
Here's a fix posted in the forums previously, that seems to work for most people with the silkscreen effect. I've noted in the dell forums that it appeared to work to some degree too.

Cliff notes:
I'll repost my suggested settings.
Uninstall Asus Splendid and go to zero gamma, 50% brightness, and 50% contrast in nVidia CPnl if you want a GREAT IMPROVEMENT in clarity of text, being able to see fill-in boxes on webpages, and color saturation. That leaves nVidia CPnl, Power Mgmt, and Mobility Ctr as controlling the screen. With Splendid (published by Macrovision, so it's an add-on), my screen lost settings even in a simple launch of Splendid.... without touching settings... so I uninstalled it and PRESTO, text is sharp and easy to read, looks like a Vaio notebook screen now.
Uninstalling Splendid removes a major module of CPU pixel processing sitting between your GPU and the LCD. Getting rid of the CPU load, since Splendid uses the CPU, not the GPU, is a second benefit, the first being having a usable screen
saw a g1s today in best buy
