    hey everyone

so i purchased an m50sv-a1 just over 4.5 months ago and recently within the past couple weeks ive noticed that the screen has developed 2 odd blotches were the the backlight is unnaturally bright in comparison to the rest of the screen. its almost as if the screen shape has slightly distorted and is sort of magnifying this specific area

when the screen is off these blotches cant be seen but as soon as i turn the laptop, on they show up. whats even stranger is that the the spots dont show up when displaying my desktop but it shows up when everything else is running(including log in screen). now this doesnt affect the performance of the laptop but its quite bothering and distracting. has anyone else experienced this? should i attempt to use my accidental damage warranty to try and have the screen replaced?

the laptop is quite babied. its only used for school and gaming. its only been taken out of the house about 2-3 times a week and its always in a well padded, secure sleeve & backpack. there has never been a time where textbook pressure inside the bag could be a problem. im not quite sure how this is happening. any ideas on what could be wrong?

ill try and post some pictures tomorrow, im not quite sure how well the spots can be photographed though

    thanks for the responses

This problem may be rooted to the ambient light sensor, which can be disabled with the key combination of Fn+A. If the problem still persists, consider contacting ASUS because it's probably from faulty hardware.

Also, something like this will likely be covered by the standard warranty; save the accidental warranty for if/when you actually do accidentally cause damage to it (you'll only be awarded one ADW claim).

so if you open lets say notepad, do these spots look whiter than the rest?

Do they look like they are BEHIND the lcd if you look really closely?

if they do, I think they are some sort of marks that are cause by putting a lot of weight over de laptop, or pushing the lcd when the laptop is closed, in your schoolbag for example.

Ive seen them in a LOT of laptops, you can almost say they are normal wear, but they do get annoying.

Don't know where you got your laptop from but when my vaio developed this spots best buy repaired the lcd under my warranty.

    cheers

it does look like its behind the lcd but there has never been more than 1 textbook + 1 binder of pressure on the laptop while in its padded sleeve

its not the light sensor though when turned off the spots still show

I guess RMA is the only way to go, if they disturb you. It looks like a hardware issue and I don't see what you could do about it.

Maybe it's best to not put any textbooks near the notebook when you get it back?... although it shouldn't be so fragile...
