anyone else think so? i mean for pete's sake at any given moment there are 25+ people viewing the asus forum and it is growing by leaps and bounds as far as number of posts are concerned.

more and more attention is being brought to their superior build quality and just flat out good looks.

i mean why else make one of these? :asus: i don't see one for apple ;)

    :)

    Strongly agreed.

Why buy Dell now... There was this one point that I was all about Dell and then Fujitsu... and then IBM.. Now Asus and Samsung.

I wish they sell Samsung notebooks in the US at reasonable price.

But I must say again. Asus is hot :)

I think Samsung has a non-compete agreement with Dell for the US market, and as far as Dells go the Latitude X1 is pretty sweet. Mybe they'll use other Samsungs as well in the future.
    Seconed.

Yeah I know that Dell uses Samsung as well as Gateway but they don't seem to have the spicy feel to them.

Samsung branded notebooks have more colors yet classy look to it but Dells just don't seem to have it. Just gray...

Well Dell mainly focuses on corporate level machines and I guess that's why.

    "a non-compete agreement" - Interesting.

    Not really.

We'll buy a bunch of 'a', 'b' and 'c' in return for you not competing with our products 'x', or the 'a' and 'b' rebrands 'y' and 'z'. Can't find the original article. Digitimes, I think, but their archives are subscription only now. Just sensible buisness.

It's (un)like when Apple was reportedly a little bit annoyed at Asus because they launched pearl-white ultraportables.

    I understand.

But what I'm wondering is that - when the agreement was made.

    Thanks

Asus is in process of updating their entire line of computers, and they seem to be putting new models out there faster than most of the other notebook companies. In addition, places like these forums are increasing people's awareness of Asus' quality and a whole host of positive reviews have flooded in. Add to that they're relatively new at branding their own computers, and you have a recipie for a hot company! :asus:

Considering Asus is an ODM..... they've done a lot of new things...... Since their bread and butter is in all their ODM work in motherboards for companies around the world and notebooks for some highend companies......... they have made a good amount of money on their own brand motherboard and graphics card and have become THE mobo and graphics card company.......... Their OEM notebook division has grown over the years and now instead of getting those notebooks out for sony/apple/sharp/jvc/some hps/etc....... they have a division that can be more free to design and know their stuff will get built as Asus' notebook line isn't ALL about the bottom line, it's about making the best they can make and be a little different from everyone else. Well they can pump out their stuff now just as fast and technically faster than they can make stuff for other companies.......... they design in house, they manufacturer in house... they are in control of their distribution.......... so they weren't the FIRST to get out a sonoma notebook, but they have certainly gotten out more new sonoma laptops quicker than anyone else and they have resfreshed basically the rest of their entire line to sonoma already and people are still out there selling 855 chipset systems as cutting edge.............

You have to give it up to Asus.

Its not asus that is doing a great Job. All they do is make good product. Their select few dealer are really the ones who give em the throne they sit on. Also they are a household name when it comes to motherboards.

No, it's not that.... they're getting things to market quicker..... that is their doing for sure........ I'm certainly not commenting on their marketing skills.... I have always and will continue to give them an "F" for marketing........ there you go..... that's my Asus bash.......

By comparison they are slow with technology innovation like latest video cards. They did expand their line card almost 5 fold in the last 2 years. Thats the only thing i can give em.

Well, to understand what they are doing, they have always been dedicated to "upper class business machines"... ALWAYS....... so "high end gaming" was never a concern for them and it's something they've been getting into for a year and a half, since the release of the M6n. They are going to go further into that teritory this year which I think is great for the overall appeal of the brand, but I respect their reasons for staying as conservative as they have been....... In regards to the high end gaming systems and the large screens... they really wanted to stay out of that until they could get a certain level of battery life and a certain weight out of these high performance systems....... So that is the main reason that 17" screens and higher end graphics haven't been used much until what'll be coming in the next 6 months.....

With that, they have to be given credit for what they did with the V6v and W3v... especially the W3v. They showed that they weren't afraid to jump on that form factor with high end (for that size) graphics........ I think that was the most liberal move they've made in a long time....... and that should just be the begining.
