Well... make sure you've undervolted your CPU using Centrino Hardware Control or RMClock; that usually helps...since the cooler your CPU is, the less heat it will produce and thus your fan won't spin as often.
Also, make sure you're using your CPU at the lowest setting. SOme others things to guarantee more battery life:
    - don't use the optical drive
    - turn off the wireless card if you don't need it
    - make sure the screen brightness is as low as possible... yet still at a reasonable level (mine M6Ne is almost always at 50% brightness or less)
    - get more RAM, so that the computer does not have to use a swap file (and thus more hard drive usage...which eats up battery)

Those are all the things I can think of right now...

That's a good idea but I don't think you really need to undervolt the cpu. Make use of power gear and play around with those settings. That should help quite a bit, but follow the rest of what Aurora said about everything else.

Undervolting has done a much better job than Power4Gear for me, and CHC is much more powerful than it and it allows much more ability to change the way your computer can save power. Before undervolting i got 3 and a half - 3 and 15mins on battery and after about 4... plus with undervolting it dramatically reduces heat by up 2 about 10c! I used to boot at 50C and now at about 39 even 32... Undervolting really doesnt cause any damage and there is no real drawback as far as I can see... You migh want to read up about it... there are many posts about it.
