I recently got a W3V and it's been working wonderfully until I installed Visual Studio .NET. Now, when I press the browser button on the right side, I get "Error - can't get environment variable." I checked my environent variables, but everything looks normal - I can't imagine what environment variable the browser shortcut button needs. I tried reinstalling the ATK0100 driver, but nothing changed. I also tried System Restore to before I installed Visual Studio .NET, but System Restore wouldn't work (??).
Any ideas on how else to fix this? and if not, could someone with a W3V check their environment variables so I can see if mine are different?

Let me guess -- you use Firefox, right? Or some other non-IE browser?

Turn off the Windows automatic updates, and the problem goes away. Interesting, no? Somehow whenever Windows updates, it checks for the default browser, and if it isn't IE, it screws up the button setting.

    Two solutions:
    1) use IE as your default browser (not recommended ;) )

    2) whenever Windows updates and screws up the button, just launch Firefox (or other preferred browser) and set it to default. After that, whenever you want to launch, the button will work again -- until Windows updates again and screws it all up. As usual......

    Ahh, very interesting.

I'll have to check it out when I go home.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

How strange. Changing Windows automatic update settings didn't affect anything (I have it set on notify but don't download usually), but if I set the default browser to IE, the button works. With Firefox set as default browser, error. The error is still there when I turn Windows automatic update completely off. Another thing to note is that the browser button on my samsung keyboard still works; it launches Firefox without any problems, so the error must be related to the ASUS drivers.

Aha. Thanks for the workaround. That was annoying me a bit, but not worth spending a lot of time troubleshooting. The v1043.2.15.48 ATK0100 also seemed to fix the issue on my Asus machines, but this driver caused intermittent lockups HControl.exe with my W3N which was worse than the non-functioning browser button. I'll have to check if this still happens with the new driver and automatic updates off.
