considering working within 11g mode for eternity.should i change my atheros ar928x to any intel card like 5100 or 5300....would i see any improvement considering coverage and etc...its like fortress here...my card with a 3com 11g office connect the signal reaches 40% minimum after goin through like 4 concrete walls and 15 meter ...but sometimes i notice spiking in download speed but never lose connection...i heard intel 5100 rules and kick when compared to mine...wat say u?

If you do get a new wireless, go for the 5300, its worth the extra $. it has an extra antenna (that is, if your laptop has the connections for it) and boosts signal strength greatly.

hey thanks for fast response....i know that 5300 would be great deal in all that..but im not gonna use any N or 5 ghz band...all my work would be with 11g...so wat i was wondering would be there a huge diff from my card that worth buying or just a lil push up with that new wifi card??

Even if its not N, if you have a 4th antenna you will notice increased signal strength and reliability, even on G.

I only see 3 on mine. I just installed the 5300 5 min ago. It is a good card though. I like it better then the AR5891 that came in this laptop. And three ant are better then 2.

the computer itself will need to have 4 antennae, the card will have slots for 4 connections. there are pictures floating around of the G51's wireless which shows it as having 3 connected antennae and 1 disconnected (on a 5100)

I have seen it mentioned in other threads on this forum that the wifi link 5100 only has to places for 2 ant leads and the 5300 (which I personally just put in my laptop) only has 3 ant leads.

Wireless-N cards have a maximum of 3 antenna leads (2 incoming, 1 outgoing), most cheap cards will have 2 antenna leads (1 incoming, 1 outgoing).
On a side note, I replaced my Intel 5100 for an Atheros AR5008 card and could not be happier. I believe Intel cards can't match Atheros cards in Wi-Fi signal strength and reliability.
For example, the Intel 5100 card would switch between G to B and back to G constantly, while the Atheros AR5008 stays at G speeds on a G router and doesn't waiver in the slightest. Both connected to a wireless router 2 houses away, but the Intel 5100 kept dropping the signal regularly.
should i change my wireless card?
