is it better to do a clean install with vista or just uninstall all the bloatware?

Okay! The laptop doesn't seem to come with a vista installation CD, unless it's the recovery DVD?

    I agree
    Trust him/her ;)

What does it say on the disk

More than likely it is a recovery disk, in which case you will need a vista install disk to do a clean install

You get a copy of the installation media (without a key) for around 10-15$ online

That is best as you have a key on the bottom of your laptop, and an OEM key already on the laptop

Also check out the clean install guide here on the forums for an easy way to do a clean install without having to re-activate an installation

i always thought that the bloat / drivers were on the separate "driver disc"... but then again i haven't used either.

in any case, you should already have a sticker with a vista key on the bottom, so all you need is the install disc. ask a friend for it or something

If I do get one of those install CDs, will it still show "Asus" as the bootup icon when I start the computer??

For ASUS you do not (usually) need a retail Vista disk to do a clean install. Please check the Info BoothFAQ, there is a question explaining how to do a clean install with the recovery disk.

I would go with the clean install, no reason to try and remove all the crap. Just start fresh

If that's FAQ #14 you're referring too, it didnt' seem complete or it didn't seem very clear.

It refers to first and second steps but doesn't say anything about them?

Unless they're embedded in that FAQ?

    Thanks
