all this overheating BS has just gone out of control. i'm sick and tired of underclocking and limiting fps in WoW to 30 so that my GPU doesnt melt its brains out. under load i'm always hovering around 100oC and i've had it turn off on me once. thats all while playing wow, a not so graphics intensive game.

this is my second G1s (returned the other one for overheating thinking that it was defective), but after 6 months of waiting for better drivers and/or a solution to this heating bull**** i'm fed up. right around 95ish everything starts to slow down sometimes, other times the temp just shoots up past 100 degrees.

i've tried EVERY SINGLE DRIVER ever written... same ****, nothing. some idle at 70, some at 80, some at 90 degrees, and they all overheat during playing a game. some earlier than others. we're talking around 30 driver releases here, both for desktop, laptop, and both. i spent hours upon hours researching solutions and nothing worked, both on the old one, and on the new one. consider every single "solution" ever posted on the intraweb as tried and failed, minus hacking the vents, cause this baby is going in and out of asus for the entire remainder of its warranty untill they get their **** streight.

i obviously cant return it now, so i ask. if i fly down to asus and shove it up their ass, will they give me something else?

    thanks for listening

i got a laptop because of what it is, a laptop. its big enough already. if i have to carry around a cooling pad with me, i may as well get a desktop and carry that around with me instead.

besides, ffs, why should it need a coolling pad to not overheat while playing wow in an air conditioned room.

Don't shoot mate. Seeing you like playing games, I just asked. If the components are close to one another, cooling is ****, you can play in the fridge and they will still warm up :p .

Mine would heat up to 110°C... I put arctic cooling mx2 paste on the gpu and cpu, which made it run a lot cooler, it now only goes up to 96°C.

unfortunately i cant hack it up, since it will be going in and out of warranty till its either fixed, or till they send me something else.

    :D

Hahaha. I understand you completely bro. I'm really not liking Asus too much anymore. I have a Z71v, which I can rant on forever about.

My motherboard died, my video card died, my keyboard went haywire, i got huge chunks of dead pixels, 3 power adapters died, my 1st battery lasted 10 minutes only after a few months, my 2nd "newly designed" battery did the same s**t and only lasts 2 minutes now, but somehow NEVER stops charging, which is probably why I went though so many goddamn ac adapters. My battery is sitting on my desk, and im stuck with this f-ing nightmare desktop/laptop, or whatever it is now. ALWAYS ALWAYS looking for wall outlets. Oh and guess what? My GPU fan never turns on anymore and i cant use my laptop for too long cuz it burns up. I'm very close to throwin this f-ing nightmare from hell right out my window. Or maybe i'll do some home notebook repair with a sledge hammer.

Why do you think it will void your warranty.
This is modding of covers only. and you will not damage any seals on screws or any other things that violate the warranty. O may be I' wrong?

Yeah you wold be wrong lol, hack up your cover/case and your warrenty is probably dead.

My guess is bad gpu, or just poorly moutnted heat sinks.

On the first, some gpus run hotter than others. I had to replace one on my c90s, when I got the replacement it was 10c cooler idle and 12c cooler load with the same heatsink and thermal paste so it was just a hot gpu.

The next is poorly mounted heatsinks, maybe it was just not put on good, and you could always upgrade to AS5 or a Metal Pad to increase cooling, if it was mounted bad you would fix that at the same time.

Last is just make sure you do not have clogged vents and things with dust.

doubt its a bad gpu, looks more like a bad design from all the overheating problems i hear left and right. besides, this is my second G1S, both of which have/had the same prob

i'll probably end up sending it back and forth for warranty. is there any chance they get tired of me and send me something else? a calculator will do just fine

bad design/architecture seems to be asus's specialty. 3-year warranty is a must with asus laptops. it saved my @ss (well more likely pro-longed the agony). if i didn't upgrade from the 1 to 3 year warranty, i would have been out of a laptop in 14 months (my mobo died).

but it's only a matter of time. the warranty can only save you for so long.

this seems like a company that'll keep replacing a defective part with the same defective part that hasn't went faulty yet. sure they'll replace it, but in the long run, once your warranty is done...you're screwed.

i still remember the day, i went to take my 2nd defective battery into the repair centre and explained how my replacement battery was highly likely to be defective. he checked up my record, and said "sorry, warranties only 1 year on batteries". i explained how i was rapidly losing battery capacity, just like my first battery, how yesterday i had 60 minutes capacity and today there's only 40 minutes capacity. and how my battery charging indicator light never turns off, even if the battery is 100%. "sorry no warranty, it's general wear tear that's your problem". i explained and explained, about how everyone else online was complaining about the same problems, and how i knew he was aware of this problem. all he did was go into the back, grab a technician who told me the same thing "sorry warranty is only 1 year and your battery is the newly designed one, so it's general wear and tear."

i stood there, for a good minute just staring at the wall behind their backs. i was ready to pop and they knew it...i was thinking which guy should i chuck my battery at and which guy should i chuck my laptop at? somehow i managed to keep it in and just walked out...

my friend bought a different cheaper model asus the same time i did. his is running solid. over 2 hours battery. no problems at all. this makes me feel totally screwed over.

i got this piece of junk on my table, that needs to be fixed, but has no warranty...

I gave my G1S back to the shop, I had my money back and got an acer - never had problems with this one. (First, i gave my g1s to the workshop, but they said, that my g1s needs a new motherboard (It has melted due to high temps (NEVER GET MORE THEN 95)!!!

idle is 68-72, under load (just warcraft btw, nothing intensive) it hovers around 95ish at first, 102ish a bit later, and if i keep playing it will go up to 107ish. only tested 107 a couple times, i usually cap the fps to around 30 when its above 95-96 and try to keep it there just to be able to keep playing

some of the drivers i tested idled at 80 degrees, and absolutely shot up above 90 after a couple minutes of wow.

Can you try (just try) to run your stuff with these bottom covers removed for a while?

Why do think taking these lids/covers off for a while can void warranty?

I totally share your concern about warranty and before you go to do any alterations, you should of read the warranty first

My G1S has not overheated, crashed or anything yet in the year that I have owned it. I've been playing a lot of FPS too.

    Maybe I'm just lucky :D

Same for me, since one year , no problem , playing a lot , OCing sometimes, and putting GPU up to 95°C within problems.
It is the first model , the G1S-ak005c .
