Hi guys, my girlfriend has the 'Asus F8S'

This thing gets incredibly hot, and shuts itself down often, she's currently finishing her masters and this is creating a really annoying problem/hinderance, here are some of the temps ( @ idle)

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to sort out this problem? Neither of us are tech savvy and don't know what to do.. Thanks alot.

blow out the cooling fins with a an of air.

does she happen to be a smoker? if so you may have to take it apart and clean it out by hand but usually a good blast of air into the cooling fins (where the fan blows the air out of the laptop) will get rid of the built up dust.

If you do use a can of air to clear the vents, be sure to use something to keep the fan from spinning (PC off of course) so you don't do damage to the bearing.

Thanks for the replys so far guys - she isn't a smoker no.

here is the blue screen when the comp crashes, it says something about ATI, so I'm guessing it's the GPU, but i've checked the gpu and cleaned the fans...

from the temps i posted in my first post, the CPU seems like it's the problem? it gets so hot it's unreal you could almost fry an egg on the keyboard

Judging by your temps your problem is with your CPU temps not GPU! 98C is a dangerously high temp and it is not surprising your system crashing or shuts off with such high temps.

You must get access to the heatsinks and air vents on the laptop and clean them out thoroughly. I am certain there is a dust blockage of some kind. Follow the advice above to clean them.
You could also change the thermal paste on the CPU however I don't recommend this if you are not at all tech savvy

Another tip would be to use the search on here and look up "undervolting CPU with RMclock" follow whatever guides you can find and you will find your CPU temps drop by a good 10-15C again.

Hello, I too have an Asus Laptop, an F81SE in fact, which may be a similar model. Right now I am having temperatures of about 62-65c for my HDD and 76/74 (although Rightmark says its 61c) for my Core 2 Duo processor. Is this normal? I feel that it is immensely hot.

Please forgive me if I didn't describe it right, I'm reading from the CPUID Hardware Monitor. Thanks!
