I have an asus g1s-a1 which I have had for almost two years.

I have recently been using some headphones for gaming and music... and now my speakers are acting up:

the first issue was I would only get sound when the headphones were plugged in, so I assumed that the headphone/speaker switch was not triggering, so I tried to mess around with the jack, but to no help.

I next thought maybe drivers so I attempted to update them, but none of this worked.

It was around reformat time for me, so I did a complete reinstall fo vista, but that didn't even work, so I thought maybe my speakers were dead...

however, I found out that they work if I turn the volume all the off then back up. Any ideas why this might be the case? I'd like to turn the computer on and have the speakers working without needing to turn volume off then back on (not so much an issue, but a hassle)

    - Thanks

It sounds like a hardware issue. You may have to send your unit in for an RMA to get the issue fixed. You should definitely do it before your warranty expires.
