well, this is no good... I've been using my ASUS z63a laptop while lying on my bed, but being careful to leave the front vent hole uncovered. anyway, the graphics system will freeze up and not refresh, seemingly at random, and then will basically kick down to standard VGA graphics, saying that the device driver has stopped working. this has happened 3 times now.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293078 < this is the relevant MS knowledge base article for the problem.

I have the newest drivers from the intel website, and the latest z63a BIOS from ASUS' website. The apparent workaround according to Microsoft is to crank down my graphics hardware acceleration, but I would rather not do that.

Is it giving you the blue screen or is it just crashing and defaulting to a very low resolution and saying to restart to get it to go back to normal?

Have you tried only installing the drivers off the enclosed CD? Make sure you install all of them too.
