hello! i have an asus v1s, that i just recently purchased maybe a month and a half ago. i'm in college, so i take my laptop with me to class frequently. today, i shut down my lid, like usual, thinking that it would go in hibernate mode, which didn't happen today! when i took my laptop out of my bag a couple hours later, i noticed that my laptop was a lot warmer than usual, and upon turning it on, there was a bunch of messages and tests saying how my CMOS time hasn't been set, and how my disks were being checked. I think it might not have went into hibernate, and stayed on in my bag for around 2 hours... any thing i should be really worried about? any tests? suggestions? i would greatly appreciate it! i'm really scared that my laptop might be damaged. thanks to all those who reply in advance.

If the cpu gets hotter than a factory set temperature, the computer would should shut down. I wouldn't worry too much ...

It's unlikely any hardware damage was caused, though it is indeed possible. Be alert for any other unusual behavior or performance issues.

There shouldn't be any problems. Embarrassingly enough, I did the exact same thing today, I left it on in my bag for two hours during my break. Not only was I walking around with it on, it had no ventilation inside the sleeve! When I took it out, it was running but incredibly hot, it was at 78~ degrees, so I turned it off and let it cool. I turned it back on an hour later and it was, hopefully fine.

i'm pretty sure thats what happened also, but... is it possible for the computer to be damaged before this happens?
i also forgot to mention that it didn't recognize my wireless mouse when i put the usb reciever into the laptop. its pretty scary how my computer "forgot" things like the time and my wireless mouse... -
thanks again for all the feedback, i feel better about the situation. it'll never happen again though =]

Once my fan didn't start and the computer overheated (CPU at 105 degrees) and "forgot" about my LAN Ethernet card, i.e. it didn't connect to a network any longer.
It came back once it cooled down.
Electrical conductors on the mainboard change properties when hot, namely their resistance increases (and other stuff as well, I'm sure, but probably this is the most important) so electrical signals do not travel properly any longer. It probably happened to you as well. For instance the BIOS memory area for the settings lost the power, and the settings were erased. -

Hopefully not. There are no guarantees.
If your wireless works ok now, you're probably in the clear.
suggestions! mistake on my part
