    Hello everybody,

I just bought a ux31la and admit i didn't do my homework before and am almost desperate. I now discover that their support site is so slow that it's unusable in interactive mode. by the time a page loads you have finish lunch. I looked around found and subscribed to this forum. So, my first question is How the h**l you guys, asus owners, do do get help? Is there a secrete incantation to pronounce before clicking on their site? Please what is it? Do you give up even using their site? Do you think it's intentionally so slow? i know of no other site as slow!

    Thanks in advance,

And, since i am posting could anyone please tell what did you do to have the display cloned on the micro hdmi port?

    Guy

I doubt ASUS would make their website "intentionally" slow but ASUS' webpages and servers are located in Taiwan so international users based outside this region are going to suffer some degradation in bandwidth performance.

Have you tried a Micro-HDMI to HDMI High Speed Ethernet cable (like this one) to hook up your display? It also may be wise updating the graphics drivers to the latest ones to see if it can fix some potential issues.

Yeah it can be an issue. Although I've had problems with nearly every manufacturer's support site being unusably slow at one point or another.

Usually there are multiple download locations on ASUS drivers and utilities, you can often just replace one number in the hostname with another and get a faster speed.

What do you need form ASUS' website? I tried to use it and was able to get stuff from there quickly.

You're right. It looks like they've changed it to dlcdnet.asus.com from the old dlsvr01.asus.com, dlsvr02.asus.com, dlsvr03.asus.com etc. setup. I haven't been there in a while.

Well, i doubt that the distance is the reason: around the globe of telecom cable km should not increase the per page latency by more then 40000*3=120milliecs. Try the Edimax web which is Taiwanese too, you'll be surprised.

For the hdmi port i tried the very same cable i use for my xoom tablet or xperia phone but can see nothing on the external monitor. I don't know where from i should install a driver: I wanted to find this kind of info in Asus website but it's so slow that's nearly unusable. Furthermore, i don't have any mean to restore the machine to the factory state should i have any problem during a driver update so i am afraid to do anything with it.

Thanks for you reply and the link: i just need to ask support questions: For instance,
what should i do to connect the Zen to a projector with hdmi port or,
why is the keyboard flashing at random or,
what should i do to restore the machine too the factory state (windows 8) in case of catastrophe
or what are the small symbols on the keyboard by the "A", the "C" the "V": Nothing about these symbols in the "user manual"

I am trying to ask these questions in https://www.asus.com/support under "Email us" but this is shamefully unresponsive

I don't know for sure if this is intentional but i have serious doubts that they can be unaware of the piteous function of their web

    Cheers

OK, Here's how to activate the external screen:
    1) plug it => usually nothing happens
    2) Press Fn F8 => you have the choice of selecting screens - both, external only etc. Usually, selecting ext screen will direct the audio to that hdmi cable
    3) If you are unhappy with this audio choice, go to playback devices and you'll be given the choice to deselect the screen and select other sources e.g. blue tooth etc.

About Factory reset: power off > while pressing F9 power on > you'll be give options including factory reset. I understood that the backup is in a special not write accessible folder.
