I'm quite happy with asus, my main laptop is a g1s.

But i don't see myself realistically carrying that to lectures everday through subways on my back etc.

I was thinking about getting an EEE, can some people give me their impressions with it?

I'm thinking about just getting the cheapest one possible, the 2g surf, or w/e site is sellign w/e model for cheapest.

I'll use it at school then transfer files over to my g1s at the end of the day.

Also, if anyone could tell me where they bought it from, and if they ship to canada.

The primary issue will be that most people can't touch-type at normal speed because of the shrunken keyboard (85% or less, depending on screen size), so trying to keep up and take notes in classes may be a serious limitation for you.

The Eee, esp the price range (sub 8" like the original 2G with the 7" screen) you're talking about is not meant to be a notebook replacement - you will have to look at the 1000H if you want an Eee, and for that price you should be considering either a MSI Wind, Aspire One, the HP or the upcoming (preorder) IdeaPad S10. On the 10" screen models, you *might* be able to touchtype quickly, depending on your individual skill.

@Brian - I use my Eee EVERYDAY in school for 3 / 6 of my courses. All the teachers think it is a great idea that I have a tiny laptop that can be easily carried anywhere without the need to carry a power adapter. One teacher actually want to order a bunch of these for their department.

Personally I love my 1000H and I can touch type on it very well. I can't type as well as on my desktop keyboard but it is pretty **** close. I highly recommend one.

I think the 2G would be too tiny for you

I would not go with anything less than a 1000H since it has the biggest keyboard and bigger screen. Its still much smaller & cheaper than any 12-13" laptop but its big enough to actually work with it.

Plus not sure what exactly you want to do but the 1000H will let you run windows, and have space to save files.

They are own to $440 now for the 80gb version and 6 cell battery its a great deal so I just got two of them :p

I will give my feedback/impressions when I get them.

I just ordered a 1000H last Friday (should be here by the end of the week). I'm a student, and already have a relatively powerful desktop. All I needed was a light subnotebook for going to class to take notes or to take home on the weekends.

At $400 it really can't be beaten.

Zipzoomfly had it listed at $409.99, and with the 2% cashback from MS Live I got it for $401.79 :)

Edit - It's back up to $439 and out of stock now. Sorry

Yeah I saw it for $409 but did not know if anybody got it that cheap. Sometimes sites drop prices on out of stock items to attract traffic and since I saw the price go right back up I thought that may be the case.

Actually I think the price drop(s) were to help Asus and resellers clear out their old 1000H stock to make room for the new 160GB model. Zipzoomfly and Newegg are both listing the old model as OOS now, so I guess that's it.

Yeah Gentech where I got mine do not carry the 80gb model anymore. Its being replaced by the 160gb model.

I am glad I got the 80gb model tho as there is some confusion in the air about the battery that comes with the 160gb model.

I found a few people on youtube that have the same idea as me for the use of the EEE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK6z-5k7Ov8

Im going to one up them tho with the wiimote :p

I was thinking about OSX86, but sticking with Windows and emulators sounds fun too. :D

Yeah the 160gb is out but not everybody has it in stock, and I am still uninformed completely on what kind of battery the 160gb model is supposed to have.

Some people in Singapore said its a bigger size polymer battery, but in the US I think the battery is normal size.

Well then thank god I ordered an 80 gig right before the 160's came into stock, cause I probably would have got a 160 if it had been 2 days later...
