One of the things that really seems to vary a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer with laptops is the "feel" of the touchpad buttons, but everyone just focuses on the keyboard! :)

As someone who hates to have to carry extra things around like an external mouse, how are the touchpads on the Asus laptops? Since there aren't really any local vendors that carry them that I know of, it's hard to just go out and try them. To those that have, what do they compare most closely to?

    Thanks

    They look awesome :p

Compared to my old Latitude, the touchpad is much better, but honestly, it's really hard to tell!

Yeah, I always thought the buttons on the touchpad of my old Inspiron were ... clunky at best. I love the buttons on my Thinkpad, but am just not at all impressed with the current crop of Thinkpad offerings. A few of the napa-based asus laptops look like they could be just about perfect for my needs, but having to use an external mouse might drive me insane... although at least with the built-in Bluetooth, I could avoid wires and dongles. :)

The touchpads on most Asus laptops are quite good... they make a very noticable CLICK, but they're stylish and easy to use.

There's something very, very strange about the Asus W3V touchpad, if you very lighly move your finger across it, the cursor wont move, but if you hold your finger in place and then HOVER another finger down the cursor will MOVE to where the other finger is trying to take it, and this is even while the other finger is still hovering about 2mm over the touchpad.

Also yeh the click is a bit loud, but it's fine.

Well I personally are an external mouse user, I've hardly ever used the touchpad on the laptop, most of the time the first thing I do is deactive them.

So I avoid them whenever I can, as long as is not one of those red or black little circular nob they use to place in between the keyboards, which thank God isn't the case for Asus, I don't mind.

"Red Circular Nob" is the only item I hate on my Think Pad A21M. I therefore use a mouse. I abuse the A21M a lot, it just keeps going without any issue in the past 4 years. Now I have my Z63a and the A21M is now dormant and collecting dust! Yes the Z63a touchpad and mouse buttons are good.

I use a Microsoft Wireless 5000 mouse, granite and black, it's really nice. The Batteries are still lasting since December 25th, 2005

Do the buttons on the W2 actually Click? I looks like if they bend they might eventually snap off. Looking at if I have many times wondered how they work.

    Glad someone start this post.

Yeah, there are buttons under what you're pushing...... the aluminum isn't technically the button itself. You're pushing ever so little that you're not going to bend and snap them off.... ever.

Thanks for the info, always kind of wondered if they were just touch sensitive or something.
