I am really anticipating both the sandy bridge versions of the asus u36 and u41. But my current notebook is out of warranty and looks like it may die any day.
I am wondering if there are any comparable notebooks out there curently w/ sandybridge processors fro mother manufactures? preferable w/ the business-like styling of the u36 and u41sv. and preferably at a similar price point. Why is it that Asus notebooks seem to give the most bang for the buck? The only windows computers I've had that seemed somewhat worth a higher price tag was a thinkpad because the customer service was great. my hp experience was so-so. the computer broke a lot, but they did fix it reasonably well while it was under warranty.
thanks

x220/x220s from Lenovo, Samsung 9 Series, Sony S series, Fujitsu Lifebook SH761.
None of them hit the sweet spot for price to performance as the U36 though - there is very little time to wait for the U36SD refresh from what I've been reading - it's supposed to be imminent. ASUS has been known to delay launches so I'm not sure it's a safe bet if your system is about to die. -

^wow. Too bad for anyone that was waiting for that system.
Hmm it looks like the U36SD may already be shipping in Europe but I haven't seen anyone post about it. I guess we have to wait longer in the USA, I'm not seeing it anywhere even for preorder. -

Where did you hear this from? -

Asus will have something new to replace U41.

Has Asus given any timetable on when to expect their models to be refreshed?

As a side note. Thinking back to November/December of last year when all the 'should I wait for SB??' threads were popping up every week, it seemed that most manufacturers were set to receive mobile units first and blogs/tech websites were anticipating SB saturation by end of Q1 beginning of Q2 2011. One chipset recall, many reported throttling issues and over 5 months later, we still don't have much to go by.
At this rate, it won't matter that Sandy Bridge precedes Llano by about 6 months because there is hardly any SB laptops available now.
Regardless, I'm very interested to see Asus's answer to Acer's TimelineX refresh. -

still no info on the u36sd US/Canada release date? Still nothing official on their site either?

Well Asus currently has large main in rebates available for the u31, u33, and u43 so it seems like they are trying to sell those. Hopefully that means a refresh is not far off.
