    Hi there,

    I recently bought 2x4gb corsair so-dimm ddr3 1066 memory.

Excited as hell, I raced home to install.... 8gb here we come! Didn't boot

So, I played around with the memory, thinking one was a dud. After some swapping around, turn off, turn on, I found that both 4gb modules worked, but only in slot 1.

When I try and put the 4gb on slot 2, it won't boot, even when slot 1 has 2gb. 4gb in slot 1 works with 2gb in slot 2.

Anyway, suffice is to say, I am confused. I am not running 6gb but unable to run 8gb.

My bios is version 211, running windows xp 64bit.

I have looked at the bios settings and there it doens't look like there are any relevant settings I can tweak. I have also looked into msconfig and changed max memory, turned off, on etc. That wouldn't have helped anyway, as the pc won't even reach bios with 8gb inbstalled.

So, any ideas?? I have trawled this thread and haven't found anyone with a similar problem... if there is a relevant link or work around, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

    Brett.

PS. SiS states that my max memory allowable is 8gb and both the corsair 4gb and the original hyunix 2gb I am running now show the same specs.

I just wanted to double check that the machine is showing only 6GB of ram installed since I know there were some thin and lights with 2GB soldered to the main board. Probably NOT the case just curious its interesting.

There have been some issues with ASUS motherboard unable to boot with 8GB at rated speed.

    i.e: [Solved] Won't boot with 8 GB RAM - Asus - Motherboards-Memory

Personally I think I may have the same problem with the ASUS board before, but my memory is failing me at the moment. I don't think you can adjust the timing of the memory in BIOS, but perhaps that's something you should consider.

    Thanks for the reply.

The pc will only take 6gb (4gb in slot 1 and 2gb in slot 2). Windows 7 shows 6gb as does SiS (Sandra).

I didn't know there were some things and lights around with 2gb soldered to the main board. I don't think that would be my pc as both of my slots were filled with 2x2gb of ram, totalling 4gb.

Hi. Thanks for the reply and the link.

I have looked over Tom's hardware before looking for a fix and didn't read that thread, so +1 for your find and link!

The bios that I have seems to be a simple American Megatrends bios. Not much that I can fiddle around with.

CPU-Z and SiS (Sandra) both show that my memory (hyunix 2gb - orioinal from purchase and my new corsair 4gb) are the same speed, same voltage, same timing, same latency, same everything.....

Maybe my motherboard has popped its funny fuse??

I personally think it has more to do with a bug than a damaged motherboard. I think perhaps a call to ASUS's customer service (however painful it might be) would be a good place to start.

I downgraded my bios to 210 and memory still won't work. Not sure if I should go further back though if it is a bug.

Asus service is horrible. I emailed them through their website when I first posted on this forum. No response.

I have called the service centre in Sydney and I keep getting a recorded message saying the lines are busy and to call back later - no leave a message, nothing.

I may need to go to Silverwater where the service centre is based and slap someone.

    Rant over.
