Ive been looking at eddie's video about assembly of the s96j... Ive taken out fan portion of the computer; in the video there are some pink stickers over some silverish looking things, sort of looks like a double-sided tape; are those pink stickers supposed to be taken off when you put the fan piece in? The video shows eddie "pretending" to place it in, but the stickers are on, as well as the yellow sticker that covers the heat sink over the processor; The one I just pulled out of my computer did not have the yellow sticker on it, but the pink ones were still there...

help guys? asap :p ;cause its sitting out here on my desk right now, and I dont want dust to get in it :p

edit: btw the pink sticker areas fall on some black chips that surround the small ati grphaics chip.,..

    Thermal paste perhaps?

The black chips are most likely the dedicated memory for the ATi card.

are the pink stickers part of it (ie are they supposed to be there), or are they obstructing the heat transfer?

im opening considering this because ive been having fan problems (its noisy?! ie. powered on high every 10 min) and im wondering maybe somethigns wrong with fan/heat transfer)

you can't replace the pads with AS5...

take the pink part off- it is just there so that the thermal pad doesn't stick to anything esle. Those cover the memory and you need some sort of thermal compound to cover the gpu chip. there is some included in the packaging and for the cpu, there already put thermal compond on it so you also just need to remove the plastic on top of that.

thanks for your help... the thermal pads don't ... get gooey and spread around do they? tats another reason why I was considering maybe thats why they have tape on it, to keep it in shape.

Yeah, I ordered from NCIX and asked them to assemble it... so Im guessing they forgot to take the tape off?

BTW can any reseller, (ie. geared2play,milestonepc,powernotebooks) back this up, or someone that has opened their s96J; I dont want to screw tihs up?

NCIX don't assemble pieces, they just give you the parts, they don't have a dedicated 'team' for building notebooks last I recall. I know they have a desktop team though...

    I built my S96J, so....

also, the thermal pads retain their shapes, the plastic cover is just there to keep from getting stuff stuck in there, but if you leave it on, it won't cool your laptop properly

I ordered an S96J from NCIX for someone else where I specified the parts and told them to assemble it. They just added a labour charge of $50 bucks I think.

Those purple vinyl stickers are just there to keep the "oil from evaporating" and the thermal pad from drying. You have to remove to expose the pad. Do not add arctic silver to it. Asus can void your warranty for that if they want to. I know i would only becuase we put seals on a finished and assembled product. Just use the pads no paste
