    uninstalled acpi utility and reinstalled

    Would uninstalling the acpi utility and then reinstalling it change the fans behavior or is that controled by the bios and embedded controller?

    As I understand, the fan on/off and rpm is set by the thermal profile in the BIOS, and ACPI is just the communication tool that allows it to be controlled by the BIOS settings.

    Unless there are bugs or conflicts or otherwise wrong settings in the ACPI driver, there is no benefit to reinstalling it.

    But those things might be correct so you might try it.

    Keep in mind what ClearSkies has said, it's likely the BIOS has full control over the thermal thresholds.

    What is not satisfying you in how your fan is running?
