Is there really any advantage or disadvantages between doing an upgarde or full install?
the reason I ask is the huge difference between cost of OEM,Upgardes, and full installation versions of Vista.
thanks for any response in advance.

When I tried Vista, I did a clean install on a separate partition. It seems to be general knowledge that Vista doesn't upgrade very well as the process has bugs and such.

It's best to do a clean install. But even if you have an upgrade-dvd, you can still do a clean install with the help of your win xp cd.

To my knowledge, Windows "upgrade" kits are standalone kits that are only legitimate in combination with a license of the original product. They might, or might not, request the serial number of (or the insertion of the actual disk of) the original product during installation. So there's no reason for which you can't do a clean install using a Vista kit bought as an "upgrade".
And therefore, buying a full Vista license when you already own a WinXP license would mean you lose money for nothing.
That being said, I would never ever "upgrade" a Windows version to another, that can only lead to trouble, with almost no possible real gain.
But I might be wrong...
