Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has done a CPU upgrade on the Asus V6J. I have an intel core duo 2.0Ghz CPU which I'd like to use. I know it'd void the warranty, but I don't really care. What say you?

Yeap, you can do it, though I'm not familiar with the steps. I doubt you'll see a difference between 1.83 and 2.0 though

I think the V6J in US is only available with the 1.6 CPU unless I'm mistaken. Anyone did the CPU upgrade?

i believe that it should be back order if Intel is not available for wholesaler or distributors. It should be coming soon.

I don’t think 200 MHz (even duo) will give you a real noticeable boost either.

I suppose in that case... but still think it over, first you will void the warranty and secondly you have to buy a new processor (therefore pay full price for it), of course you can always sell the old one on eBay or something.

He said that he already has one.

But honestly, I think you'd be better off selling your 2.0 GHz and using the money for something more useful like ram or a hdd.

I already have a 1gb DDR-667 so-dimm, and a 100gb 7200rpm HDD along with the CPU. So its only a matter of deciding which laptop. With the new thin and light that ASUS is introducing, the choices get broader and the decision gets harder!

be careful about using the 2.0Ghz duo core. The V6J is meant for the 1.66Ghz Duo Core, which Im sure has lower thermal dissapation than the 2.0Ghz version of the duo core.

also remember that the V6J is a thin and light laptop, so cooling will not be that great if you upgrade the cpu, since the cooler is now trying to cool a faster processor.

have you checked if the motherboard supports the voltage for the new 2.0Ghz duo core that your planning on using??

I tried getting more information, but its sparse at most. The only thing I know is that the specs says it can come in 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.1Ghz CPUs. I'm not sure if the motherboard would be different for the other CPUs, so I'm banking on they're the same. (I hope..)
