I'm thinking of getting a new wireless router, and some support 5.0 ghz also, but will those only be useful if the device has 5.0 ghz wireless frequency?

So does the ux31a have a 5.0 ghz wireless frequency? or only 2.4?

It should be a dual band card. The UX31A uses the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235.

Dual-band card, with Bluetooth 4.0 and WIDI onboard. The only thing that I could see affecting this is if Asus' choice of antennae don't support 5ghz.

EDIT: Yeah, I just played around with it, and it is definitely a dual band card. Reception/range on 5ghz is crap as usual though.
