    Hi Guys,

I want to output DVDs to my nice new LCD TV through HDMI. The video signal's no problem and from what I looked up, I'm guessing you can't do audio through HDMI (it's not true HDMI or something)... so is the only option to use the headphone jack?

    Thanks in advance

You must enable HD Audio as the main audio source in the sound control panel I think

Yeah, I thought that originally after reading posts on the G1/2 but there's no option for the v1jp :(

If your destination device can take optical SPDIF then I would go that route. If you absolutely need audio over HDMI for some reason you can buy a box like

    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=3570

    But it's not cheap.

If your destination can accept coax SPDIF then a Toslink to coax adapter would be cheaper.

I don't believe that the V1Jp's output does audio. If you look closely, it says it's uDVI (micro DVI) below the connector plug, so it's not really HDMI with audio. You can buy DVI->HDMI cables since HDMI is somewhat backward-compatible with DVI, though you might have issues with some devices if they don't both support HDCP (which is kinda stupid anyway since there isn't anything practical and suitable to record HD outputs anyway).

loopty: That multiplexer seems to be very pricey...

Yeah it is, that would be my last resort. I would find a different route if at all possible. Hopefully his TV takes either optical or coax in for SPDIF.

You can also use an audio cable from a A/V (red white yellow) cable with a convertissor to plug into the headphone jack. But you won't get digital sound

They're right, the V1Jp has u-DVI, the V1s has HDMI with audio though.

I don't see a digital audio in so you might be stuck with using the stereo out on the laptop. You don't have a receiver by any chance do you?

Not many TV's have more than two speakers, Amplifiers are usually used as receivers for the surround sound sys, In good quality amps they also handly your video stream.

The V1jp has Spdif out from the audio jack from memory, you need to use a TosLink cable (Optical cable with a little 3.5mm jack on the end)
