Whats the actual battery time for the v1s-b1? I'm running Windows XP and when I first got the laptop it was giving me almost 3 hours on battery, now its more like 2hours 30mins. I've also bought a second battery and it says the same once charged.

Is this just a bug in Windows XP?

It is a bug of the battery firmware causing fake battery wear. Check the V1S battery problem threads for how to reset the battery wear to 0.

(assuming you still need this information)

Umm... if you mean the battery meter in Windows, it's variable. The battery life is dependent on how much power the system sees you pulling.

Otherwise, factors like higher brightness, having the WiFi/BT on, having more applications running in the background, etc. can have an impact on the total amount of runtime you get.

The battery firmware issue that EBE is mentioning is considerably more severe and seems to happen when you empty the battery past a certain point and try to recharge it. Someone had mentioned that it does not happen in V1S, though I couldn't say for sure since I don't have one.

It can also depend on either how old the battery is and what your usage pattern has been. Highly used batteries, even if relatively new, will show a decrease in max charge due simply to use that could explain your system's 15% drop in runtime.

It can also be related to applications, if the new battery has the same performance.

The wear problem is not severe with the V1S, it seems wear can be reset.

To make a determination of the cause, one should read the batt wear. But this is an old thread so we should wait for a reaction before investing more time in it.
