Now I'm really confused. Today's "green guide" (the Melbourne Age's weekly tv and computer mag) has two stores advertising the "Asus v6fj" - specs as listed are:
    Core duo 1.86g
    1G RAM
    120G HD
    DL DVDRW
    15.1" sxga+
    wireless, BT, 256M ATI x1600

Update: as I was writing this I got a callback from one of the stores - it's a mistake, the machines actually have an nvidia 7400. (Though the sales rep made a feeble attempt to convince me the 7400 was better as it had 512m of memory instead of 256... :)
So sorry to have bothered anyone, you can go back to sleep now.

well.. first of all, there's no such thing as the V6fj.... there's a such thing is an FJ w/ a V6, but that's another story.....

F is the letter for core duo's w/ integrated graphics
J is the letter for core duo's w/ dedicated graphics
    ... they're not used together.

Now.... before actually hitting submit, you could have choosen not to even waste the time posting it... but instead you continued to post.... but just so you know, the 7400 has 128mb of dediated vram...... the whole "512mb" thing is turbocache..... it has nothing on a 256mb dedicated card.... let alone the 7400 even coming close to an x1600 to begin with. The 7400 is putting up slightly lower numbers than even the x700....

I agree I should probably have resisted posting - but at least now anyone who (a) has read the newspaper ads, and (b) thinks to search here (or google) for clarification, can find out the truth. :)

Anyway, sorry for wasting folk's time and bandwidth. (And I wish I could buy from the US so I could get the sort of user support shown by people like proportable... I don't think the vendors here have even heard of user forums.)

No problem... you could always order from the US, but no it's not totally practical obviously. I don't think there's a bunch of Aussie's using a primarily US, or certainly North American forum.... but maybe someone saw the same thing in your paper... you never know.
