Hello everyone, I've been surfing this forum for about a week now and decided it was finally time to ask a question. I like the v6j seems to be the perfect mix of portability and functionality the 1.66ghz however is troubling me. The dual cores are now coming up to 2.16 i believe and i would like to purchase a laptop with a higher clock speed. I know that sites such as agear.com sell these laptops customized but i dont trust a site like that to be around to warranty a product in the years to come. Does anyone know whether asus will be coming out with any higher clock speed v6j ensembles? And if so, when will they be out?

They will but it wouldnt be for a while. Im guessing the first Asus notebook with a faster processor to be released would be in August. The Asus V1J is coming out in August and should have 1.83-2.0 ghz processor.

Just remember, numbers throw you off. That 1.66ghz is more like a 2.0ghz Pentium M, which in turn, is around a 3.8ghz Pentium 4

Yes, a 1.66Ghz Dual Core is more than enough for almost everyone. No need to have a higher clocked CPU which in turn raises the price of the the laptop. I bet you won't notice the difference between a 2.13 and a 1.66Ghz Dual Core. Unless you are doing benchmarks which give you numbers. But who cares about those? You might see a small difference in some CPU intensive applications such as video encoding etc, but without a stop watch, I don't think you can tell the difference. So I would not worry about the CPU if I were you. The "Megahertz War" is over, we shouldn't look at the clockspeed of processors anymore. In my book, clockspeed is not the most important thing to consider when purchasing a laptop. Hard Drive speed, Ram and other integrated components are by far more inportant than clockspeed.

Agreed the perforance difference between 1.66 dual core and a 2.0 dual core isnt much at all. The old days are gone. A 1.66 dual will outrun my 2.13 pentium M. even back when the 1.7 pM were out a 2.0 only had a 6% speed increase in testing. like you can really notice that. most the time these CPUs are clocked down as well. so again its not like a desktop CPU. remember these dual cores are giving AMD X2s a run for their money and those are desktop CPUS. upgrading will be a waste. As someone said get a 7200 RPM drive and more ram and you will be all set.
v6j higher clock speeds
