Hi,
Thanks to everyone for posting and answering all the ASUS v6v and w3v questions. I'm going back to school and I need a new computer but I'm an comp engineer at heart.
I just saw the w3v and it is *really* nice. It has everything I want at a price that is reasonable for what you are getting. However, there just isn't enough screen real-estate at 1280x768 (it's the height).
I really like the v6v (i.e. 1400x1050 SXGA+ is perfect) but it seems like it's just missing features (e.g. TV out, slower dvd burner) that the w3v has.
I am pretty sure that I want the dedicated graphics chip option since I do play games once in a while.
If anyone has any recommendations or other points to consider, I would appreciate it.
Lastly, what is the actual DVD burner speeds on the v6v. The ASUS site is providing conflicting information.

"DVD-R/RW: 8X/4X or 4X/2X, DVD+R/RW: 8X/4X or 4X/2.4X, CD-R/RW:24X/10X or 16X/10X, DVD-ROM:8X, CD-ROM: 24X"
Take care,
Felix

Its 6 pounds, all carbon fiber, and has an 8X DVD+-RW dual layer burner. Plus you'll save a few hundred dollars even if you go with higher specs.

That is what will be possible througha super slim drive... right now it's only a 2x.... and they haven't made them with a faster drive yet....
It's a good drive and it's more expensive than an 8x dual layer in a regular notebook sized drive.... You pay for the size... some people really enjoy the smallest they can get... but it's not for everyone.
Thanks,
Justin

It is a super slim drive. I was not aware of the difference. I checked the IBM store and their ultra-bay option is also DVD 2X.
So, the only thing missing on the v6v is the tv-out?
Thanks,

Correct, there was no place for s-video when they were done.
Difference between regular and super slim is basically just a little bit, but it makes a big difference.
12.5mm vs 9.7mm I think....
Thanks,
Justin
