Asus really blew it...with me at least.

I was really waiting for a non dual-ssd u51. One that would include a a bigger hard-drive and a price point in the $1600 range. Other than that, I was willing to give the ux52vs a serious look.

I was absolutely ready on October 26th (the day Windows 8 was released) to give Asus my money, however the computers promised never materialized. I've been waiting (and calling Asus) ever since.

All that patience was rewarded by pretty website photos, but no computers. And absolutely no information about release dates or availability.

Now, Samsung has promised a new series seven chronos that exceeds the specs of the u51 and ux52. I believe it will actually launch, as Samsung has a generally good track record.

If Asus would have produced their computers, I would already be a customer. Now they have lost me, and probably a lot of people that were waiting as well.

I just don't understand their reasoning...

Wait wait, it should have launched in november. It's still not for sale yet?
Chronos all the way, your gain.

What did Asus tell you when you called? And although I can't speak for Samsung or their Chronos, I have faith in them that their unit(s) will not disappoint. :)

    Prostar,

It was like a bad comedy. First they say that they have no record of those computers at all. When I insisted, they put me on hold, for up to 15 minutes, and then came back and said that they have no record of those computers.

I would then point them to the zenbook.asus.com website. They would tell me that they don't have record of that website, and that it is probably not an official website. I would then tell them that the zenbook site is a link off the official asus website. They would then put me back on hold...for about 15 minutes.

Then they would come back and say, "sorry, we just don't have any information at this time about those computers". Despite the fact that they were officially announced, and all the specs are available online?, I would ask. They would just say sorry.

I went through this process 4 times between October 26th and the 1st week of January. Unbelievable, right?

That seems incredibly uncanny. This might sound silly, but have you cleared your cache, and then gone back to their products listing page to find it? I didn't see the u51 on their catalog, anyway.

    ASUS - Notebooks

    (Maybe I glossed over it.)

When I check that page, the u500 and the ux52vs are both listed. The u500 is another name for the u51. Curiously, the ux42vs is not listed at all, as it has been listed on a couple of Czech sites.

All 3 are still listed at zenbook.asus.com. Of the 3 only the dual ssd version of the u500/u51 has been released in the US.

Ah, well I found the u500 on the zenbook.asus.com site. But on the products listing on their ASUS page, there's only a ux51vs; no 52vs.

It's curious though - a Google search for the 52vs brings me here: ASUS - - ASUS UX52VS

So the page exists after all (not that I doubted you :p). How is it they can't find any record?

And did you pull the trigger on a Chronos yet?
